Living in Memphis I visit Nashville at least once a year. Over the past several visits I have spent the night at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. On my most recent visit my daughter and I stayed downtown one night at the Holiday Inn Express across from the Frist Center, we had a wonderful time, there was lots to do and the hotel was clean, comfortable, and friendly! The next night was spent at the Opryland Hotel, and I was really disappointed with the hotel on this visit. I paid $200.00 plus dollars for a room, resort fee, parking.
Here is how the overnight at Opryland Hotel went:
1. Arrived at 3pm for check-in (this is the time hotel starts check-in) and our room was not ready. I asked the ladies at the check-in (Magnolia area) if they roughly knew how long we would have to wait, they said they did not know. Actually, they were not very friendly, informative, and rude. They acted like I was an idiot, because I asked them where my daughter should change into her swim suit because she wanted to swim.
2. We went to dinner around 7:00pm. We decided to eat at a restaurant in the Cascades area. My daughter wanted sushi - it was very overpriced ($9.00 for a California Roll - that's a lot compared to what a California Roll cost in most Japanese restaurants in this area). My daughter had two rolls, an side order of rice (rice was $6.00!), I had a cup of soup and a mediocre salad. Our bill was $53.00 plus a tip = $63.00! And by the way, the our waitress was haughtily nice!
3. The best part of the stay was the free show in the Delta area - the Peking Acrobats - we really enjoyed that. We also watched the water show - which is free - it was pretty good.
4. Our bed (we had to sleep in a king - had requested 2 doubles - but got a king) was not too comfortable.
5. The drain in the bath tub must have been stopped up - because when you took a shower the tub filled up with water to the middle of my calves.
6. Wanted to sleep in - since check out is at 11am - but that did not happen. I was awakened around 7:30am to the maids talking rather loudly to one another out in the hall (hmmm - maybe they don't want us to sleep in - since they seem to have such a hard time getting the rooms prepared for the next guests.)
As you can see - it was not a pleasant visit - only a very expensive visit!
My advice: Stay in a different hotel, just do a day or evening visit to the Opryland Hotel!
