member icon Beautiful Hotel, Awful Place to Stay

66 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for business

Our stay was end of June 2007. Property too spread out, only one check-in desk seemed like miles away, be prepared to walk yourself to death. They should have had a working desk in each quad. We had to move our own luggage via rolling cart from shuttle drop off point through the hotel to our room. We also did not like being assigned to another hotel for one night until rooms opened up even though we booked well in advance for a conference. Help staff was sparse & not helpful, some did not speak english. The room was not very clean, found all kinds of debri under the bed skirt. The cleaning staff left our door ajar all day while we were out. Survived & had a great time though.

Worst hotel experience I have ever had. Based on reviews that I found after our stay, our experience was not that uncommon (room not clean, missing towels, extremely long delays in getting service for food, check-in, valet, etc.). On top of that, the hotel is expensive - the charges are close to Ritz Carlton but the service is so far away.... GREAT PLACE TO VISIT, awful hotel.

43 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Confused where to enter hotel, should have left luggage in car until check-in. My elderly mother and I stood in line for 1& 1/2 hours.

Unbelievable, I have never stood in line for that long for a check-in. When I finally got to the desk I asked for any compensation for such a long time waiting for check-in and she told me I could have free parking. We thought the parking was free along with the Delta boat tour, which was told to us by previous hotel guests. I meet my family there from Ky. and I drove up from Al. We were promised adjoining rooms and the 1st floor.

My mother can not climb stairs and will not ride an elevator due to previous entrapment. We were checking in they put me and my 2 children on the second floor. There went our family reunion quality time while the kids sleep at night. I promised a king bed and was given 2 double beds, try that with a 5 and 6yr old that wants to sleep with Mom.

The hotel is too large and therefore they need staff to guide you to your room after checking in. They need to hand you a list of perks if you are a guest. I was given a door card and a map of the hotel and that was it. We paid $55.00 for the Delta boat ride and after we came home my sister calls me and tells me the boat ride was to be free if you were staying at the Resort. Parking, we should of been told at check-in that your door card gets you out of the parking lot, we sat in the parking lot trying to figure this one out. We had 2 cars parked in the parking lot at $16.00/day x 2 = 32.00 for 2 days 64.00. Wow, when we told parking was free, did they charge because it was a Holiday weekend and they were extremely busy?

I had paid for the 2 rooms before my arrival close to $1400.00. After getting there they tell me there will be a 10.00 charge per room per day for the newspaper, water bottle, internet---- Did anyone ask me did I want this? No, I was forced to pay for these things I didn't want. So, I come home frustrated and e-mail a letter to the Resort and get no reply. I feel like someone should contact me with some answers. People don't pay that kind of money for a room and come home frustrated.

32 year old man with a economy budget

On arrival we had a difficult time finding where to check in at first. The cascades Lobby was where we were to check in, but we seemed to find the Delta Portico and Magnolia Lobby first. The parking attendant at the Magnolia Lobby was very friendly and helpful though, he directed us to the Cascades Lobby. Check in was a breeze and and the Bell services collected our luggage and took it to our room. The room was not what we reserved, we contacted their Front Desk and they advised there were no other rooms available. It was late about midnight, but the next morning they moved our room and bell services were there to take our luggage to our room. The hotel is huge, and difficult to find your way around. The bell man was very friendly and escorted us to our new room. There was a problem with our keys working in this new room. The bell man was so helpful, he took charge and contacted the front desk about it. He didn't get anywhere with that. He then told us he would get our new keys and about 10 minutes later was back with new keys, that he ensured worked himself before giving them to us. To me that was service, because he could have give us the keys and went on his way. This type of service is what you can expect, everywhere I went inside the resort the staff was this friendly and helpful. From the parking attendants on arrival to even the shop attendants. You can ask anyone for assistance and they answer with a smile. This room was nicer, it had a balcony on the Delta. The first morning we went to "The Market" a restaurant inside the Hotel. It was a nice place on the river, but it was a little pricey. I don't expect to pay $42 for breakfast. However it was good food, a buffet that had about anything you could want. The hotel has several other restaurants and shops. You really don't need to go anywhere else if you take in all the sites and activities at the resort.

Be sure you get a schedule of all the activities and attractions, as well as a map of the resort. We saw "DeVine" while there, which is a living moving vine. It was something worth seeing. Also the Opry Mills (a large mall) is just next door to the resort. If you have any trouble walking take the shuttle, if not it is a nice walk. For a nice family lunch there is a Dave & Busters inside the mall, a game room/restaurant. If you plan on traveling downtown it will be easier to take the shuttle or cab, the parking downtown is inadequate to horrible.

We did not have wireless internet, but there was internet access in the room. If you are going to a conference you may want to find your locations the day before it starts, and give yourself plenty of time to get there.

We has a good experience, and if Nashville was a vacation destination for us it would be considered. The price is a little steep, but you get great service.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Gaylord Opryland Resort Convention Center.
I might recommend it to friends.

The hotel had a friendly, helpful staff. It was large with many activities, close to Opryland and easy to get downtown. The restaurants in the hotel are not as high quality as I would have expected.

I am very likely to return to the Gaylord Opryland Resort Convention Center.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
