When Gansevoort South opened in February 2008, it brought the glamour of New York City's trend-setting Hotel Gansevoort to sun-splashed Miami Beach. Located at the north end of Collins Avenue-an area regarded as the next epicenter of South Beach-the original 1960s art deco property has assumed a completely new identity as a contemporary urban lifestyle resort. The lobby offers a one-of-a-kind welcome, with 27 varieties of fish and sharks swimming in a 50-foot-long glass tank. Upstairs, some of the largest guest rooms in South Beach average 600 square feet, most with unobstructed ocean views. The decor combines charcoal-gray suede walls with splashes of magenta and teal and playful pinup photos from the 1930s and 40s. High-tech perks range from wireless Internet and fax lines to DVD-CD players, 40-inch Sony flat-screen televisions, PlayStation3, Sony Dream System stereos, and iPod docks. The stylish, high-tech ambience continues in 45,000 square feet of function space, including a 6,500-square-foot ballroom and six state-of-the-art meeting rooms. Outdoor gatherings take place at the 10,000-square-foot Ocean Terrace; the Beach Club's tri-level, 40,000-square-foot tropical pool deck and dining oasis or the Plunge Rooftop, an 18-story-high retreat with a 22,000-square-foot deck, a 110-foot-long pool, and its own bar and lounge. Add two signature restaurants Philippe Chow and STK, the 42,000-square-foot flagship "David Barton Gym + Spa," and a full city block of luxury boutiques, and Gansevoort South ranks as one of South Florida's most fashionable meeting destinations. Guest rooms strike an alluring balance between elegant simplicity and everyday luxe, with clean lines and neutral shades sprinkled with vibrant splashes of color. Visionary architect Stephen B. Jacobs and interior designer Andi Pepper's custom-designed tables, sofas and chairs create spaces that sparkle with Fifties-era glamour and 21st century amenities. I really liked my stay at the Gansevoort. there are a lot of nice plces in Miami Beach, but the Gansevoort had a really well appointed room with lots of white on white that really reinforces the beach/luxe feel. The big glass doors opened on to a smallish balcony with a great view of the ocean. But the real star for me was the rooftop pool and bar. we spent every afternoon up there alternating between the pool, the mojitos, and the amazing view. Sunset over the west wall is really beautiful. The pool area turns into a lounge with music and dancing at night. I'd go back in a minute.
While the Gansevoort might be a big fish in NYC,the new Miami location is a minnow among sharks.
Although the hotel is open for business, there is no kitchen, nightclubs, restaraunts, gym open.In fact the Gym etc.will not be open until the fall..as most of the other amenities.
They do have a beautiful rooftop pool, but the disorganization of the staff kills any chance it had.
Hotels like Delano and Shore club charge big money for big service,Gansevoort just takes the money, and hopes you dont notice you're staying in a lame place.
