with a budget, traveling for leisure

The pictures were misleading, the rooms were smelly and drab, felt like I was in a Fire trap. Could not wait to leave. Good thing they went cheap on the lighting, if you could see the insides in real light you would turn around and leave. They said they had an indoor Olympic pool, I'm not sure whose Olympics use a 25 foot pool. Stay away, this is no bargin, spend your money anywhere but here.

38 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

After driving 2 plus hours with 3 children, we arrived at our first reservation in Pollace's Resort. This is NO resort. Located on a dead end street, we felt like we were in an Elm Street movie. The web site is VERY deceiving. My husband would not even let us out of the truck. In desparation, I called local resorts and was relieved to find a "vacancy" at Friar Tuck. Not much better than our previous reservation either. I have to say, the staff was very nice (the few that i did see). The rooms/hotel leave much to be desired. We had hair in our sheets, cigarette butts in the outdoor pool, and smelly towels. We checked out earlier than planned. This place should either be updated or close down. There is no effort on the part of the owners. It is apparent that there is no interest in owning this business anymore. Years ago, I heard wonderful things about Friar Tuck, but obviously that was a long time ago. I remember going to The Granite hotel as a child with my parents. It was safe, clean and accommodating. Sadly, I did not feel the same way here.

72 year old male with a moderate budget

Friar Tuck states they can accommodate one thousand guests! Nightmare-NYCVoyager stated no other available rooms, something sounds "Fishy" to me?

I and many friends used to do 2 and 3 times a year there (New Years Eve included) b/4 their expansion!

REDRUM, REDRUM. Remember the Shining? That’s the closest description I have for the nightmare stay we had for a wedding the weekend of June 27. When we checked in we thought it was kitschy that everything looked like 1973 (with no maintenance or upgrades since). Dark wood paneling, old carpets, mismatched bathroom tiles epoxied into random areas, e.g. the elevator, in haphazard ways. The sheets were threadbare, the carpets damp with who knows what and rough camping blankets. The sink, toilet and bathtub faucets all leaked. It smelled like smoke even though we were on the non smoking floor. Our friends were on the “smoking floor” because they did not request non –smoking. They were unable to move them because they had no vacancies (scary). At 8am on our first morning we were awoken by a non English speaking maintenance man who managed to tell us in broken English that he was there to fix the bathroom. I said he woke us up, we did not request service and to go away, he requested to come back in one hour. I suggested after 12:30 when we were going to attend the wedding. Imagine our surprise when we came back at 11:00am after breakfast (do not eat here, the dark dank Sherwood Forest dining room, leave the property) to find our bathroom taken apart by their maintenance crew. The response was “the boss really wants this fixed today”. I could not believe it! We had 1 hour to get ready. I called the desk and asked why they could not wait until we were done for the day - she offered to allow us to use another bathroom temporarily on another floor and then come back to the room we had. After arguing she found us a room with twin beds or a queen with a cot. There were no offers to help us move to a new room even though they have 2 teenage “bellhops” at the front entrance at all times. Our “new” room was slightly more clean but leaked in the bathroom, and the TV squealed (with fear, I truly believe). Thankfully no one woke us up the next morning and we hightailed it out of there before Jack Nicholson showed up with a machete. Compensation from management? $25 off each night (regular price $150!) only when I insisted. Saving grace: Johnny G. who runs the karaoke nights in the bar, extremely entertaining with a great voice of the oldies – Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Frankie Valli, etc. - he too deserves a better venue. Please save yourself a migraine and $$.

46 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We checked in on Saturday June 21st and left the next morning! I can't even tell you all of what was wrong with the place. There is tooooo much. I will share some of it with you: The best part was when we left. When my kids ask to leave, you know it's bad! The website is outdated and the place is a mess. The staff is not very knowledgeable and not real friendly. No kids activities. They had 2 activities listed on Saturday, but they didn't hold them and no one we spoke to could tell us why. On Sunday, there wasn't even an event sheet. There were kids playing with the elevator and we had to walk the 4 floors each time we needed to go to the lobby or all 5 floors if we needed to go to the pool area. The indoor pool and jacuzzi was a mad house. Anything goes at this place. And when I asked at the desk about how busy they were, they said it was a slow time for them. Our first room (room # 476 of the main building) had a broken air conditioning system that a maintenance man who could not understand me tried to fix. The SMALL tv buzzed and gave out LOUD static noises after about a half hour of use. There were construction materials on our balcony (of both rooms). The second room (room # 478 of the main building) had no latch on the door so the only lock was the door knob that used a real key as entry. The bathroom door didn't even come close to closing. The hook on the back of the bathroom door was broken off. There were large, brown stains on the cieling that I assume were leaks. The furniture was an entire story of its own. But the air conditioning worked in this room!!! None of the rooms have WIFI, hair dryers, irons, CLOCKS...who doesn't have a clock with radio or alarm??? The basketball courts consisted of two portable basketball hoops in the parking lot! The paddle boats were in a small pond with much too much muck and seaweedy type growth. No security. Anyone can enter the building from the many doors that go right to the floors where the rooms are. This was a no smoking in public areas type of place, yet even the employees smoked...right at the front entrance! To get to the Abbey dining room you need to walk through a maze of hallways and through a conference room (that was in use at the time of our visit!). There is VERY little to do in the surrounding area with the kids. Not a very pretty area. Some of the info the Inn gives you does not even exist anymore (example: the ATV trail rides at the Discovery Zoo). They don't give you any info on meals, meal times, hotel property or anything else upon check-in. Nothing in the room either. They don't even ask you how everything was when you check out. When we left after on night, they never asked us why or anything. Employees not real customer friendly. I cannot say it enough...STAY AWAY!!!!
