63 year old female with a economy budget

Three members of the Virginia Paranormal Investigators came to the Farnsworth for several reasons and every reason was fulfilled. So much so, my daughter and I are planning another visit. My husband and I occupied the Sweney Room while my daughter, Steph and her friend, Liz stayed in the Black Room right next door. We encountered some very interesting experiences using our paranormal equipment. The open air cafe is wonderful, relaxing and beautiful. No one had any complaints about the Tavern. The history is rich here and it's easy to let yourself slip back in time whether you're enjoying the furnishings of the 19th century or viewing over 100 bullet holes still in the south side of the House. The staff is friendly and more than ready to assist and share stories and the food is very reasonably priced and can only be described as delicious! As I sat in the open air cafe sipping a drink I noticed how this Stately 1810 House casts a shadow on a busy Baltimore Street and found it hard to imagine how it must have looked when occupied by Union and Confederate soldiers who were facing an uncertain future. Whether you're a Civil War buff or just looking for a relaxing atmosphere with great shopping within walking distance, The Farnsworth House Inn will be a wise choice for you! We're coming back!

39 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

This has been my second stay at the Farnsworth, my cousin and I went for a "girls' getaway weekend. We stayed in the McFarland room, this was a very cozy and well decorated room. The rooms do tend to be a little small but the way I look at it all you do is sleep and shower there anyway. We at one of our dinners in the main dining room. All food was excelent and for two people ordering filet mignon(which by the way melted in your mouth) the prices I thought were reasonable. The tavern was pleasant and fun, we had a lot of fun talking with the bartender and shareing stories. The ghost walks and story telling were fun as well. All the staff were very friendly as well as helpful with any questions we had.

I would highly recomend the Farnsworth House to any one. The location is great, walking distance to almost everything, shopping, tour center, other resteraunts ect. As a matter of fact my husband and I are going again next month for our anniversary, I an really looking forward to the whole experiance again!!

25 year old female with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

I don't understand the previous bad reviews of the Farnsworth Inn at Gettysburg. My friend and I very recently went on a long road trip which concluded in Gettysburg. We stayed at the Farnsworth because of its reputation of paranormal activity. But even if you don't 'believe' in that stuff, the Farnsworth is an excellent place to stay.

We got there after check in time so we were directed to the tavern for our room key. The manager there helped us right away, and he even followed us out to the car to help with our luggage. My friend and I stayed in the Eisenhower room and while yes, the bathroom did not have a physical door, it did have drapes you could close. The maid service was great. We always returned to a made bed and fresh linens. And a complimentary breakfast WAS provided with the cost of our room.

The tours and tour guides were amazing to talk to and share stories with. My friend and I were even able to go on a tour headed by the owner of the Farnsworth, who is an extremely nice man.

Now, we did not dine in the formal dining restaurant that is attached to the front of the inn, so I cannot comment on that. But, I can comment on the tavern and the great service and friendly staff there. We were always immediately greeted. Sometimes it would take a few minutes for someone to return to take our order, but that was when it was very busy. The staff at the tavern was very friendly and easy to talk to. My friend and I went in numerous occasions to simply order a drink and chat with the staff.

Overall, I would recommend the Farnsworth Inn to anyone wishing to experience the history of Gettysburg. The Farnsworth is also a plus if you wish to do a little paranormal investigating, (which is what my friend and I were there for.)

Stay Away

**HIDDEN: Not a reveiw of a hotel stay**

This was the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. My friends and I dined in the garden, and the trouble started as soon as we entered. It was obvious they were understaffed and the young employees were clueless. After a wait of several minutes we were seated, then waited several more minutes for a server to help us, while we watched people who came in after us get served. We finally got our orders taken, and when our food came out we still hadn't gotten our drinks. The server brought them when we were halfway done with our meal, and we didn't get what we ordered.

The food is overpriced and terrible. I ordered crabcakes that looked like they were dropped on the plate with an ice cream scoop, and the bottoms were burnt. My friend ordered roasted chicken which was very small, had little meat, and was greasy and cold. She ordered a (very small) baked potato for one of her sides, which came wrapped in foil and a packet of butter and packet of sour cream on the side. Though wrapped it was cold, and she didn't even touch it. You'd figure since each meal averaged around $20, there'd be some sort of presentation. What we got instead look like someone threw it in the oven, then ran it out to us.

The portions are pathetic. Now, we're not big eaters, but the sides were smaller than our fists, and the main entrees looked like children's portions. Again, for what we paid, we excpected more. Instead we got greasy and/or burned food that would leave even a child hungry. We will never eat at the Farnsworth again, and I urge anyone thinking about dining there to stay far, far away! In my opinion, the place is overpriced and overhyped, and you'll get better service and food at a more casual and affordable establishment.

This hotel was in very close range to most of the attractions. IT is the most beautiful place I've ever had the pleasure of staying in. It was like stepping back in time. The bed and linens were very comfy and soft. We stayed in the Sara Black room which had a good sized lovely bathroom and the towels smelled fresh and were fluffy. There was an extremely nice man who showed us to our room, who also worked in the bookstore. The staff givng the tours of the house were also extremely great. We also encountered a few unexplained exciting experiences during the nite. The only complaint I can give is that while making reservations to stay at the farnsworth the woman on the phone was not very pleasent to deal with. This is an inn That I will be returning to many more times.
