Actually chose the Wingate because of the reviews, for a wedding we attended in Coventry.
I was very pleased with the lobby and our check in. But even more pleased with our room, it was immaculate and quite large. There was even an area off of the lobby to buy snacks, drinks and microwave foods to heat in your room (convenient). The continental breakfast was one of the best with many choices from yogurt and fruit to waffles and sausage.
I wish we could have stayed longer and would not hesitate to stay there again.

A newer hotel but not a problem in sight. Very nice and helpful front desk staff. Immaculate clean room and pool. If you're going to Newport, RI, forget the stay in an overpriced place in Newport/ Middletown stay here and drive in (about 15 minutes). I actually wish I would have done that. I paid much more to stay in Middletown, RI for a place that wasn't half as nice.
Keep up the good work Wingate. If I am ever in the area again (or any place with a Wingate) I know where I am staying!!
