We have stayed at this hotel perhaps a half a dozen times in the past three years; we have yet to be disappointed. As others have mentioned, there is the free cooked-to-order breakfast that comes standard with all Embassy Suites properties, along with the afternoon cocktail hour.
However, this hotel really gets it's reputation from the stellar service provided there. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful (although this past month, the concierge seemed a bit overworked and grumpy), they always smile, they do their best to accommodate all requests.
The location is absolutely lovely ... it is a four block walk to the Chambers St. subway, but that is the beauty of it: no crowds. If you like the hustle and bustle of Times Square, then the ES is not for you - stay away! For people like me who like the relative tranquility of a residential neighborhood, then this place is paradise. It is true that most of the river view rooms have been obstructed by new construction across North End Ave, but there are still a couple left, and they are stunning.
The drug store and restaurants nearby make it convenient to keep all activity in the area should one be so inclined.
I hope this place maintains the level of service always.
