El Dorado Hotel Sonoma Hotel - Page 1

We just spent 3 sleepless nights at the El Dorado. The windows/doors facing the side street are neither thermopaned nor sealed and the sound experience is quite similar to actually being outside. We enjoyed the sounds of a garbage truck on Sunday at 3:30 a.m., food delivery trucks at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, a cement mixer on Tuesday and a bus on Wednesday. I should note, we both had earplugs. "Management" provided a 10% discount 1 night only. Also, the hotel charges nearly $200 a night for its terribly noisy rooms, but has no bellman; completely average room amenities and no room service. The Madrona Manor or Rancho Caymus are slightly more expensive, but are quiet, lovely and have the services one would expect in a $200 -$300 per night hotel.

The location is great, but thats a problem too. The streets outside are very, very busy into the wee hours. If you are in a street side room, the noise is terrible. About the time you finally get to fall asleep, the garbage truck comes around at 5 am and wakes you back up.

We asked to be moved to an interior room, and were accommodated. However, now the noise was coming from the patio, and the restaurant/nightclub directly below. This old building is without insulation and very noisy. The stereo thumps away all evening, ruining any chance of quiet rest. It reminded me of my days in an apartment full of college kids. NOISY. I got no response from the manager when I asked to speak to him and emailed him.
