Deer Park Hotel is situated in the ground of Howth Castle. Although only nine miles from Dublin City Centre, it is remarkably peaceful, being surrounded on all sides by golf courses apart from the south, where the spectacular rhododendron gardens cascade down the rocky hillside. Its 78 bedrooms are decorated and furnished to the highest standards and a large number of them look out over the sea at a panorama described by H.G. Wells as The finest view west of Naples. The hotel boasts a fine restaurant, a 17 metre swimming pool with sauna and steam room, and two all-weather tennis courts as well as our guests have the opportunity to play what are the finest park golf courses in the district. This hotel is located on the grounds of Howth Castle and while the castle can't be toured as it is still a family home, the castle built in 1450 is still fabulous and right behind the hotel is the spectacular Rhododendron Gardens with walks that guest can utilize making it just so beautiful during May and June. Plus Deer Park is only a fifteen minute walk away with this quaint little fishing village where you can see the seals come in for a free meal and watch the magnificent yachts in Dublin bay. Then of course, there is the fantastic golfing, which is why the hotel opened up in the first place. Plus I think it provides a nice income for the people who own the castle as those things aren't cheap to keep up.
The guest rooms overlook both the golf course and the sea. My only complaint is that they only had either a double bed and a single bed or two single beds in their suites. We much prefer a king or two queens, but the bathrooms were pretty nice and there were two comfortable chairs to watch the TV if you wanted and there was also a fridge and coffee and tea making stuff.
