We had a terrible experience at the Economy Inn at 528 East St. George Blvd. in St. George, UT. We arrived in St. George late at night and were trying to get a room. We found the Economy Inn and my fiancée had paid cash for the room and received no receipt or paperwork.
We gathered the things out of our car and there were sketchy looking people in the parking lot watching us get our things and slowly approaching our vehicle. I immediately did not feel safe and was uncomfortable leaving my car there.
We entered our room and noted the lovely cinderblock prison style walls complete with white painted areas over spray paint graffiti on the cream colored walls and the steel door was all smashed up- from the inside. I immediately felt like I was in a bad episode of CSI.
We called the night manager and he tried to convince us that the white areas were not painted over anything that was just the lighting- and the cracks in the wall- and the walls being old. Even though the white paint was the same they used to cover the graffiti in the parking lot. If he would have been honest and said, You know we had a problem with kids in the room vandalizing property" or something, I wouldn't have felt so uneasy. It was like this guy was trying to cover up something. We told him we didn't feel safe here, noting the people in the parking lot, and requested our money back as we had not even been there 10 minutes. He refused to give our money back saying it was "against policy." I requested the paperwork that outlined his policy. We didn't receive any paperwork at all. He threatened to call the cops on us when we requested paperwork and money back from him. I told him go ahead call the police. He eventually gave us half our money back and pocketed the rest for himself. We had tried to record his Tax ID number, Lodging Number and the identifying information that is required to be posted but he had covered that information up.
This place is a sleazy motel where the management, the rooms, and the people outside watching intently as you remove personal belongings from your car makes you feel unsafe, unwelcome, unclean, and ripped off. Stay elsewhere.
