Econo Lodge Kearney Motel - Page 1

We didn't book this stay, but rather were on the return leg of a long road trip and needed a place to get a few hours sleep. They had a sign visable from the highway with light up numbers showing the price. Of course when we pulled off, we were told that was for an extended stay (not stated on the sign) and it would be 50% higher. I kind of wonder how many people just driving by on the highway, going off the price on the sign are looking for an extended stay. We were very tired though and just got the room.

The first thing we noticed was that the chain for the door was missing and the spot where it used to be was painted over. The deadbolt lock had been painted shut on the end and did not work either. There was just the door handle. that didn't work too well as it was somewhat low down on the door, where even our 15 month old baby could just pull down on the handle and get out of the room. Luckily there was a table that was quite heavy so we just pushed it in front of the door to keep the kids in (I would have complained but we needed to get back on the road within about 5 hours and didn't want to spend the time).

We went to check the weather and found that the jack to the tv was loose so it kept cutting in and out. The paint was peeling in the bathroom and the towels were not clean (washed but stained). Two of the lights didn't work. The next morning, I realized that the only ice machine they seemed to have was broken.

We just needed to get a few hours sleep on the road so we got what we needed, but this place is in serious disrepair. It was 2:00 am when we checked in, and the parking lot was almost empty, so its not like its the only room they had left (I assume they are all in this condition). Had we stayed longer, I'm sure we would have found more problems. For the money, it should be easy to find better.

I had six rooms reserved, and front desk staff was organized and kept in touch with us until the day of arrival.

Their staff was very friendly and respectful. The rooms were clean, breakfast was excellent with a variety of pastries, juice, and fresh fruits.

I will definitely recommend to any guest.
