This was absolutely the WORST retail experience of any kind that I have ever had! I had short notice to find a hotel in downtown KC that would accept pets so my expectations weren't high but I figured for $90 a night we could at least get courteous service and clean towels. Clearly I was mistaken! We ended up at the downtown KC EconoLodge. I booked online because they had a big icon saying "pet friendly". We arrived after midnight and checked in with our dogs. The room was terrible - broken picture frames, dingy towels, barely working window unit for air/heat and just plain old. We weren't complaining though until the morning when the front desk attendant ripped into me for having dogs in the hotel. Keep in mind... we checked in with the dogs, walked by the front desk with the dogs in the early am and walked out past the front desk with the dogs. She said that I had sneaked the dogs in the night before, was lying about having them, etc. She then stated that she was going to charge me $10 per dog plus she was going to leave my credit card open to charge me whatever they wanted for "sanitizing the room" (although she couldn't tell me how they would sanitize the room). This lady was NASTY and kept telling me to "stop lying". I was so frustrated that I got on the phone with Choice Hotels Customer Service (I was a Choice Privileges member) and they were no help. I refused to leave the hotel until they told me what they were charging me - an additional $50. This whole situation was ridiculous! I chose a pet-friendly hotel, checked-in with dogs, walked around with dogs and am then accused of trying to steal from them by not letting them know that I had dogs. Their fees were absurd but not even close to as bad as how I was treated. The front desk attendant even referred to us as "you people"! Can you believe that?!?! I stay in a lot of hotels but I will never stay in a Choice Hotel again. HORRIBLE!!!!!
