Econo Lodge Battle Creek Hotel - Page 1

We had to make a medical family emergency trip at the last minute. We were trying to stay close to the hospital, which is why we chose this location. We booked this room thru Choice Hotels since we had a discount program with our auto insurance company. After driving 14 hrs., a short visit at the hospital, and being late at night we just wanted to go to bed and get some sleep. This place looked totally disgusting, but we were exhausted. Once in our room, we were completely grossed out. There was supposed to be a fridge & microwave in the room and there wasn't, a/c didn't work, cigarette burn holes in bed linens..we tried to just overlook it and get a few hrs. of sleep, to no avail..Car alarms going off constantly, people running around outside our room making all kinds of noises and banging on doors. There was a club right above our room that sounded like it was in our room..All in 1.5 hrs..Went to the desk to get a refund, the desk clerk refunded the 2 extra nights we had booked, but would not refund this night we had spent 1.5 hrs in our room. Told me to call the owner on a certain date and time. After we returned home, I called repeatedly and they have given me the run around about this for 2 months. Everyone I spoke to denied being the manager. I finally contacted Choice Hotels and have had some run around there, too. I've finally got ticked off and they said the hotel would have to do the refund. I called the hotel to fix it, he finally admitted he was the manager. He argued with me about the conditions of the hotel and that the club was not open at the time we were there and that the a/c was fine. Basically said that I would not get a refund for the first night, and was only lucky that the desk clerk had refunded the two extra nights. He also said he hadn't heard anything from Choice Hotels. I called Choice Hotels and they had on record that he had responded to them 3 times and he had told them he had contacted me, which he never had done!!! I have faxed my information to Choice who promises me they will now get this resolved. I'm not going to hold my breath! I will never, ever use this hotel again, and would not recommend it to ANYONE ever if it was the last place to stay in Battle Creek, or in the state of Michigan!

This hotel was filthy and it smelled disgusting! I have never stayed at a worse chain hotel in my life. Our pillows smelled so bad that we had to put t-shirts over them.

It was fine, chosen for nearness to primary destination.

The room smelled strange and there were 2 or 3 room of really loud people around us.
