Official Hotel Information
A boutique hotel in Manhattan, it occupies a building raised in 1903, the Chemist Club, where all the architectural details have been preserved, including its splendid marble staircase. The classicism of its structure contrasts with a stunning interior decoration, bearing obvious reminiscences from the world of art and culture, an example of work by the Jeffrey Beers studio. Of its 107 guestrooms, the Alchemy Suite is noteworthy, decorated in Gothic style, situated in the attic, recreating a mediaeval alchemist's laboratory. The Dylan Hotel also provides two reception rooms with capacity to house 50 persons, a fully-equipped gym and a grill-restaurant offering a wide variety of culinary tastes and styles and dishes in the new American style in an atmosphere that combines comfort and elegance with a simple but exceptionally good cuisine. The hotel is situated in the hub of midtown Manhattan, close to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Central Station or Times Square, amongst other tourist attractions. CITY TAX DIRECT PAYMENT AT THE HOTEL: 3,5&36;/DAY DOUBLE LUXURY ROOM OR EXECUTIVE AND 7&36;/DAY JUNIOR SUITE

Okay
Tiny, dark room, but adequate for a business stay. Staff was competent, but stand off-ish. The original 'chic' decor seems shabby now. Could use a face lift, or better maintenance. Housekeeping could have done a better job vacuuming the carpet. ...
27 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for business
If you're driving here yourself you might miss this place, as the front is easy to skip past. However, once you enter it's gorgeous inside and the lights are muted so your eyes aren't hurt by brash lights. It's the same in the room, so if you're someone that loves for things to be lit up like a Christmas tree from switching on one light, you may not appreciate it (the lighting does go with the modern decor, however and there are more lights that can be turned on). The bathroom was not huge, but it was clean and well-lit. I am not a fan of placing my toothbrush above the toilet like I had to do here, but the sink is quite small (it's free-standing).
The hotel itself it's very well put together, but perhaps a bit too much thought went into the planning as it's a bit too slick, a bit too straight, a bit too...contrived. I can understand hipness, but I like understated and this was over the top. The location is great, near Grand Central and I slept like a baby, so it's not a 24-7 party outside. Theres nothing wrong with the hotel at all, but I didnt fall in love with it.
pros: Location, Quiet roomsNice looking small modern boutique hotel located a block from Grand Central Station. Tasteful looking, very quiet rooms with high ceilings, 27 inch TV's but no DVD or CD players, and no 1000 CD library as their web site...

Horrible
The Dylan had been on my "to stay at" list based on several articles and hip hotel book inclusions its Alchemy Suite had garnered. The first night's rate was $275; the second night's rate was $325. Both seemed high, but since the only other...
pros: decor, bathroom, serviceI had to stay here because the W was booked - and wat a great surprise. I stayed with my girlfriend for and they overbooked the two rooms so the upgraded me to the alchemy suite - it took my breath away. It has the...

Mediocre
After my string of good luck in picking boutique hotels (including 60 Thompson and Bel Ami) last year, I admit to being quite excited about my stay at The Dylan last December, and quite sure of my excellent screening capabilities. I was taking off...
pros: Romantic, Quiet, Good locationWe stayed for one night in rainy May, and it was great. The room was totally secluded, and we never heard anyone else, including from the busy New York streets. The setting was very sleek and romantic with low...
pros: staff, decor, serviceWhat a great hotel...everything it advertised and more. My wife and I spent four days at the hotel and it couldn't have been more perfect (they even helped me arrage to have flowers delivered to the room prior to our...
