People seem to either love or hate the Duncan. Unfortunately, I'm in the latter category. I've stayed at this hotel twice (once in 2007 and once in 2008), and I had a miserable experience both times. The rooms are in poor physical condition. ...

Good
First, let me say that the only time a maid has ever thanked me for a tip was at the Duncan. The bellhop seemed genuinely surprised to be tipped for taking my bag to the room door, and the concierge was helpful and friendly enough, both on the phone ...
This place is cheap but it wouldnt be worth it even if it was free. The room had a musty smell like a closet that hadnt been opened in 200 years. The carpets were of an unidentifiable color and the sheets looked like something out of the 70's. ...
DON'T make the mistake of staying here! Not only did the door not lock, but I had no running water during my stay! The staff refused to fix the water and wouldn't move me to another room, though plenty were available. My linens were stained and the carpet had suspicious red stains that were covered up with a rug. When I complained to the front desk, the manager refused to help me or reimburse me for my stay. In fact, he threatened to write MY name down on his mighty "Do not rent" list, just because I politely complained! I immediately left the hotel and stayed the second night at a hotel down the street, and had a pleasant visit there. This hotel is full of rude staff and disgusting rooms--don't stay here!!
NOT recommended-- terrible service, gross rooms

Horrible
The staff at this hotel is incredibly rude. They openly insult customers and refuse to offer assistance. The rooms are run-down and uncomfortable; they are not worth even a cheap price.
Caution regarding form of payment

Okay
This hotel is a great value and in an excellent location in New Haven near Yale. Do not expect the Hyatt but the hotel is clean and is perfect for a guest that is basically using the hotel to sleep.
Not clean is the key word, I was glad to find a large room for a low cost but at night when going in to bed, I just wished I was in a more expensive hotel.
Duncan is just a charming hotel. Its old and a little shabby but clean and the staff are really friendly and helpful with a good sense of humour. I loved the location, although there is now some construction on Chapel st and its a bit noisy. And the ...

Horrible
I was excited to see the price and location. Even though the other reviews were poor, I figured I could stand it given the PRICE! I called for a reservation and was told the rate was $25 more than what I saw. "Well, you saw wrong," was...
