When visiting Joplin, don?t put on your ragtag dancing shoes and jive to the syncopated beats of Scott Joplin?s greatest hits just yet. Joplin, in fact, was named after the Reverend Harris Joplin, founder of the area?s first Methodist Church. But the Scott-less Joplin still has a history unique to itself. The city first entered the national limelight for its bountiful zinc mining (next time you take your modern, zinc-filled cold medication, remember the Joplin prospectors who made it possible) and is now is full of historical exhibits, museums and many other excellent attractions. . To experience its oddest attraction, many visitors come to Joplin to catch a glimpse of the area?s famed Spook Light. According to thousands of Joplin citizens and guests, a mysterious ball of light appears over the Joplin horizon, right by the Missouri-Kansas border. If you?re in the mood for something a little less scary, however, you might want to take a look at your Drury hotel bill. It won?t contain any spooky charges because at the Drury Inn & Suites, the Extras aren?t Extra®!. Start your day with our free HOT! QUIKSTART® breakfast, which includes Belgian waffles, sausage, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and much more. Then, as your stomach rumbles during your zinc-mining tour, remember our free popcorn and soda are available in the lobby every afternoon, closely followed by our free evening Beverage Reception. But don?t get too filled up on Drury grub?there are many excellent restaurants nearby, including Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden and Steak ?n Shake. So book a room in Joplin, and leave your kitchen pantry items at home. .

The best part of the hotel was the room. It was a smoking room, which I hate, but there was very little odor and very clean. We got the smoking room because it was both a king bed and 10 dollars cheaper than a non-smoking queen. The room was also spacious, well-decorated, and I felt comfortable. The mini fridge was hidden in a cabinet and we had to find it on our own. The hot tub was the best, it was actually hot. The staff was very courteous and open. Breakfast was wonderful, the free beverage evenings novel, and the eggs were really runny. Hubby called the "Army eggs" and wrinkled his nose. The traffic control situation getting into and out of the parking lot was very poorly planned and doing anything as a pedestrian is just too dangerous. It was safer to drive to the restaurants across the street.
