So, in Cancun. I am staying at an all-inclusive resort...Dreams Cancun. So, long story short, here's my impression;
1. Food, although it is included, calling it mediocre would be a huge compliment. It is never quite enough and I find myself eating 2 dinners, neither very good. It is not cooked well and vegetables are not fresh. I actually walked away from a meal b/c it was really that bad. I thought they should pay me to eat it.
2. The liquor is not top shelf. It is again, mediocre at best. The margaritas are made with tequila liqueur... they taste like vodka. You'd think they'd be able to at least make one of those. Wine is not included (it costs you more.)
3. The entertainment is alright but I wouldn't think it is better than other places.
4. The dolphins are cool, there is no doubt.
5. The people are all Americans and not very friendly. They are mostly from the northeast US.
Other notes:
-got locked out of my room twice b/c the key stopped working and it's a good 1/8 mile each way to get to the front desk.
- for $300+ a night, you get a small concrete box of a room...mine doesn't even have a bathtub, just a shower.
-it was an additional $70 for internet access for the 3 days. Free food but not free internet? How does that work?
If I rated this resort on a scale of 10, I'd give it a 4, but only b/c the dolphins. Without that, it'd be a 2.
You would be better off going to Miami. It has the same feel as Cancun, but I think it is better. Not to mention the road system is better. Now, if you want to see the Aztec ruins, you don't really have a choice but to come. They are worthwhile but you are pressing your luck driving here. Good luck with the speed bumps they put in the freeways to slow you down. Watch the signs or damage your car. Also, ATMs are NOT readily available and often broken. If you leave the hotel, BRING MONEY WITH YOU!
