25 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

The hotel was very wonderful. I am planning my wedding there so I went to view it for myself. All the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. The rooms were a little small but comfortable. There is a shuttle bus every hour on the hour that buses guests downtown. The hotel food was very delicious. We tried almost everything on the menu and were quite pleased with their tastiness and quality of portions. The mini bar was stocked but overpriced (as all mini bars are) so we avoided that and instead ordered from the hotel bar which was ridiculously cheap~ $3 bucks for any brews and $4 for mixed drinks which I thought was rather cheap and it helped save me some extra money. The pool was warm and relaxing and they had a steel drum entertain everyone poolside. There was also massage chairs, private cabanas, and a volleyball net (no ball which was rather odd) but overall a relaxing atmosphere. I enjoyed that it was away from duvalle street. It allowed me to relax and then choose when I wanted to go downtown to be involved in all the craziness. I thought the staff was warm and hospitable and they even gave me a map to go jogging in the morning, it was a pleasant stay.

26 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We stayed here for the Labor Day Weekend and it was an okay place to stay. We had no problems with check in at all and received a cookie that was pretty good. The room was an average room and well stocked with nutragena products. The pillows were very soft and comfortable but not the mattress it was really hard but my back was not sore the next morning so I was thankful for that. The ac worked very well which it was mid 90's out so that was a definate plus for me. The second day there a transformer blew and a 1/4 of the hotel had no power and there was a big mass in the lobby all afternoon cause they had to get changed to a different hotel and there were alot of mad people over that. Internet was out all day too as a result but luckily it was free. We had to get them to bring a dsl cable as there was none in the room as the person before hand took it home with them. The breakfast buffet was good it had a good selection. We did not use the pool but it looked nice. This hotel is not down where the action is but there is a free shuttle bus all day that drops you off in the old town which saved alot of money on cab fare. The gym was small but never crowded so it was nice to workout without having to wait. It was a good hotel probably stay someplace closer to downtown but would stay again if it was a short stay.

33 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

My husband and I planned a last-minute, overnight stay here during our vacation in February.

It was the only place available, and between the amenities list and the hefty price we mistakenly thought it would be nice. When we checked in they insisted we take a key for the bar even though we didn't think we'd need it.

When we got to the room the bar was open and the most expensive item was missing. And the bathroom light didn't work. Back to the front desk and I had to wait for help, and then they wrote a little note about the bar (which no longer existed when we checked out). I asked them to send someone up to replace the bathroom light, and when he came he said the ballast? It was broken, pulled out and put back in the bulb, and said it would be fine as long as we didn't turn off the light for the rest of our stay. Right.

The hot tub was colder than the pool.

Worst of all, on the cab ride back, we were told that someone had died in the place earlier that year, that the hotel had been involved in a cover-up, and that someone else had been hospitalized a week or so before in the same room for the same thing. Carbon monoxide. We slept with the windows open, listening to the peaceful sounds of the construction work going on outside our window.

I wouldn't knowingly take my chances with a hotel that looked away the first time there was a problem and tried to cover it up the second time.
