June 2008. 12 of us had a family reunion at Dean Creek Resort. We stayed in the motel section. The rooms were large and came in 1, 2 and 3 beds to accomadate our different needs. The pool, hot tub and sauna were good. There was a nice picnic area and a seperate building for meetings. The laundrymat was convenient. The owners were very nice and helpful. The room rate was $75-$94. It was a quiet place, very restful. Would not hesitate to return. They also have camping and some very new cabins. Very close to the Southern end of the Avenue of the Giants.

I can't believe this is an approved AAA Campground for families. I wonder when the last time AAA was there to inspect. The overall appearance of the resort is good, however, keep driving ....... We were just through there and it was the last night of our 7 day vacation and the worst experience we've ever encountered. We were placed in RV Space R18 right next to a big, ugly, old, nasty blue and white school bus. This bus had obviously been there for quite some time. The occupants in the bus were loud and swearing either at each other or their many dogs. The restrooms and shower areas could use a good deep cleaning. Not worth the $36.00 per night we paid which by the way was the worst place and the most expensive .....$10.00 more than anywhere else we stayed.

Owner's relatives in motel unit next door had noisy guests, owner has small yappy dogs and parades them in front of the motel while talking loud baby talk to them, room had minimal amenities, cheap towels, tiny TV screen. How this place got a AAA rating I'll never know. If you want a good night's sleep, keep driving.

After reading some reviews about Dean Creek that weren't very complimentary, we were pleasantly surprised when we stayed there in August. Check the date on the review. It's under new management as of 2006 I believe, has been redecorated, all the staff are very helpful, courteous, and friendly. The location is great, quiet, but very close to the giant redwoods, Redway, and Garberville. We're looking forward to our next visit.

If you are looking for a friendly place with a fair price, this is it. The folks that work at Dean Creek are knowledgable and friendly. The place is old, built in the 1930 - but very family friendly and in a perfect spot for the redwoods. The Eel river is a 3 minute walk from the rooms and there is no other businesses around. Just off the 101, 7 minutes to drive to stores/food/gas and only 30 minutes from Scotia it was the perfect spot for us - we had never been to the redwoods before, and now we can't wait to go back. We will be staying at Dean Creek again.
