68 year old with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
We stayed in this hotel in Oct 2007. Very central but absolutely no parking outside to offload baggage. Parking available in the centre of the old city with a walk through passage to hotel. Passage stinks of urine. Hotel reception is up a flight of stairs. No lifts. Standard bedroom had double bed but on one side the wall sloped down so that you had to crawl along the bed to get into it and risked bumping head on the window section. It hurts! On the other side of the bed stood an open wardrobe which had sufficient space for one leg to pass between it and bed. Plug in basin as usual didn't work and the shower was a hand held job because the shower hold on it had been broken off. Loo for a bloke was pretty unusual. Also placed on the sloping wall and my husband 5ft 8 had to lean backwards when peeing due to insufficient room to stand. a bit of a laugh all round and an adventure. Price reflects what you get but it is not suitable for even agile pensioners. OK for young people on a budget.
The piece de resistance is the most expensive room which Madame proudly displayed to us, a typical nightmare of tacky French design. An Indian atmosphere with brightly colored everything and shiny cushions. You can sit on cushions here and have pretend tea from the Indian samovar. the breakfast room requires sunglasses. Bright orange and brown from top to toe!
Madame is very sweet helpful and welcoming. If you want cheap, very central, clean but old fashioned, and don't mind a very colourful ambiance and lots of orange/brown voile curtaining this is the place for you.
Parking in summer would be a complete nightmare and on Thursdays the central parking is closed due to Thursday market from 8am-3pm.
