LexTravelers icon A Complete Disaster--Don't Stay Here!

60 year old with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We chose this hotel because all others within easy travel to Hershey Park were full. We actually discovered that we had stayed there once before, also on a trip to Hershey. The hotel has gone WAY downhill in the intervening four years--although the staff was friendly, the rooms were terrible. We had two rooms. One was below average and the other totally unacceptable. In room 212, the air conditioner did not work properly. I advised the staff of that before we left for the park after check-in. I was told "put it on 4, it should work better that way." They obviously were already aware of the problem and had not fixed it. Well--when we got back from the park at 10:30 p.m., it was too late to do anything about it. The room was warm and the compressor slammed on and off all night as it tried to cool the room. It didn't work. I have never complained about a room, sent back food at a restaurant, etc.--but I literally did not sleep all night long. The TV reception was poor (how do you do that with cable?) and the bathroom shower did not work properly. The little plunger that engages the shower when you pull it up was broken, so you never did get a proper flow through the shower. Kids were running up and down the halls until well after midnight, and there was a loud party at the pool until after 11. In our other room, the bathroom light did not work--you had to leave the door open to see yourself in the mirror. At least the air conditioning in Room # 215 worked and that half of my family got a decent night's sleep. The entire hotel smells like a dark, unventilated bar--although there are supposed to be non-smoking rooms (which ours were), the hotel smelled so badly that there was no way the non-smoking rooms could smell any differently. We checked out at 9:30 a.m.; while I was checking out (and complaining to management about our stay), the cleaning staff was perched outside our room waiting. They asked us twice if we were checking out--they wanted to get in there fast. Very rude. The only positive thing about our stay was the continental breakfast--although it was very small in quantity and variety, it was adequate and there was plenty of room to eat in an adjoining room. This was the worst place we have ever stayed in. We will not return.
