Days Inn Orlando Maingate to Universal Hotel

Quite simply the WORST hotel I've ever seen!

The room was disgusting and dirty - there was a big hole in the wall.

Only 2 lights were working - numerous lamps had no bulbs at all!

The smoke detector was beeping as the battery was either missing or dead.

There was no other furniture in the room other than the beds and TV - indentions in the carpet indicated that a table and chairs used to be in the room, but were no longer there.

I couldn't even bring myself to look in the bathroom.

We arrived around 11pm and there were numerous people slumming around outside the rooms - drinking beer, smoking pot, etc. As I walked back to the car to get my luggage, I was certain that I was about to get mugged. Without waiting around to find out, I gathered my family and we left. The clerk almost looked as if he expected me to return for my money back, as this was certainly NOT a family-friendly environment. To be fair, he didn't give me a hard time about it.

Conversely, we stayed at a DoubleTree Inn (just around the block) and it was an extremely nice place to stay and a great value at $89/night.

Traveled to Orlando with my wife and sons (15/12).

The good: Very good location to Universal Studios and Sea World, the parks we attended. The price was low. Pool area was nice. Check-in staff was nice. Housekeeping did a good job.

The bad: A VERY loud teen group was there when we were and very little was done about the noise. There is a sign at the front that says there is on-site security, but you'd never know it. TV channel selection was very bad. No elevator meant dragging luggage up and down stairs. The two ice machines closest to our room were broken. Days Inn sends an online survey after your stay, but doesn't follow up to assure problems have been addressed or act in any way that they want to keep your business. Luvers on AC/heating unit don't move or adjust, so if you're on the bed closest to the unit, you have air blowing directly on you. Very little storage.

I know sometimes travelers want a Ritz Carlton hotel room at a Motel 6 price, so some reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt. But the problems with this place were a bit much. It's not a good value and I wouldn't recommend this motel.

I researched this hotel before booking. The pictures of the rooms looked nice. Upon arrival, I was shocked! Not only did the room look different than what I saw online but the room was gross! It was what they called a non-smoking room, yet it smelled of old cigarettes and dirt! The floors were tiled and the mattresses were so worn they looked as if they could suck you in! Once I saw the dirty bathtub, it was time to go! We never even took our bags out of the car. We went straight to the lobby and canceled. Oh, and not that it mattered at that point but the 24 hr restaurant they advertised was closed for renovations.

It was a decent place to stay, with good rates and well situated.

This hotel made me feel relaxed: There was not any noise or commotion during my stay.

It was in a great location and comfortable. It was a quick stay so I did not take part in a lot of the amenities.
