Days Inn Oceanside Miami Beach Hotel - Page 1

This hotel is a little better than "OK." I was realllly expecting something scary, and it actually wasn't that bad. The hotel was old; a lot of cigarette burns in the carpet, but it wasn't too dirty. You get what you pay for - I think it was a little over $120 a night. My co-worker had a corner room that must have been about 600 sq. feet with an ocean view...I was not so lucky. I had a view of the building next door, and my swamp cooler was set on freezing, and the knob was broke. This hotel is centrally located in South Beach - everything seemed to be in walking distance. I believe it would be the perfect hotel for a college spring break trip. In the end, it worked fine for me, but I would still much rather stay at the Ritz:-)

Do not let the images on the Days Inn site fool you, this place is awful. I was there the 2nd week of January 2008

Starting from the outside:

phone booth across the street with phone ripped out/broken car glass along the curb/intoxicated man hanging out next door at the scuzzy bar

Continuing on inside:

The lobby looks okay, but the people staffing it acted as if we were bothering them.

The girl at the front desk quoted a room price, then when I went to sign the credit card receipt, the price was higher ($200) --they charged for a safe, which I didn't want, then was told it was an automatic charge. I asked about parking and received no assistance. She appeared to have a problem with my asking in the first place. Later when I told her manager, he was uninterested.

Then:

The elevator appeared old and unsafe, (and stopped twice between floors) the hallways to the room had a smell to them of old carpet, the paint was dingy, and in a couple spots there was gum/graffiti and the room was unclean.

Bottom line: Springbreakers rejoice! You can wreck the place and well, no one will notice...cause things won't look that different.

Everybody else:

-There are actually nice places to stay around the corner. Good Luck.

1) The elevator on the right side would get stuck every time it reached the lobby. You would have to open the doors by a piece of metal attached to the inside door.

2) The air conditioner in the room didn't work. Nor did the bathroom door close. The bathtub was dirty the night I checked in and water would not go down the drain.

3) Room service was pitiful, towels would not be left after the room was cleaned and took hours to be taken up.

4) Food is horrible, $30 for burgers & fries. The only restaurant is in the basement and lunch and breakfast are served in the bar next door. Definitely not a family environment.

I was also charged for the safe, I did use it but was never warned that every time it was opened I would get charged $2.50 for opening it.

The best and only good thing about this hotel, aside from the proximity to the beach would be the pool. Yet I would never recommend this hotel to any one.

I liked the view and the proximity to the beach. They have a friendly staff. There was nothing to complain about during our stay.

This hotel made me feel practical: The hotel was conveniently located within a short walk of all the things we came to South Beach Miami to see. The price was right for the location and accommodations.
