Days Inn Oceanfront Kill Devil Hills Hotel - Page 1

We made our yearly trip to Kill Devil Hills over Memorial Day as usual. The hotel where we normally stay had over booked so we were offered "comparable accomodations" at this hotel. To say that we were disappointed would be the understatement of the year. The hotel that we booked originally was a two bedroom suite with a wonderful view of the beach. When we arrived at this hotel (three adults and one child) we were surprised to find ourselves in a closet with two double beds shoved into it. We had a small microwave sitting on top of a small fridge. The bathroom was so small there was no space for a tub so it was a shower for my five year old or nothing. The only window we had would not open and faced the neighboring rental cabins. There was so little space between the double beds and the walls of the room that two people could not pass each other. One would have to sit on the bed to allow the other person to pass.

We inquired three times over our four day stay to change rooms and offered to pay extra to do so, but were told that they had no vacancies. We attempted to change hotels, but the hotel would not give us a refund of our prepaid deposit. We checked the rooms that were more comparable to the one we had originally booked and there were at least two that never filled up or were cancellations. We also asked a maid to see into the rooms across the hall from ours (yes, we had an interior room on a "oceanfront" rate) and it was almost double the size of ours. We were never offered a chance to move or any type of courtesy by the staff. The pool is old, unheated and needs updating. Many of the poolside chairs were broken. There was one picnic table outside of the hotel but it was monopolized during our trip by the college age people in the rental cabins next door. We will not be returning to this hotel. Traveler beware.

It’s a wonderful place to get away either for a family or a romantic weekend for two. It’s a beautiful hotel and has a friendly staff, a great breakfast, and is close to the beach.

This hotel made me feel inspired: The staff was so sweet and the whole atmosphere from the hotel to the setting near the beach was just wonderfully enjoyable.

It was a clean room and had a great view of the ocean.
