66 year old woman with a economy budget

We are two senior travelers, one with heart problems and asthma.

I had booked this hotel at least 3 weeks in advance requesting a non-smoking downstairs because of heart problems and asthma. When I called to confirm the day before arrival, I was told they had booked me in an upstairs room. The night clerk was very nice and changed me to a downstairs room. She said they probably put me in an upstairs room because I got a cheaper rate through the internet.

The hotel was almost empty the two nights we stayed there. The only other guests that I saw were construction type workers. I think there were about 6 - 10 vehicles in the parking lot.

Had I not had a non refundable reservation, we would not have stayed there the first night because of the local area and the condition of the room. We were not familiar with the Orlando area when booking this room.

The area is not a very good area. All the businesses close by have gates and chain link fences around them, there is also a chain link fence around this property. I did not feel safe at this hotel.

The room was a good size with a mini-fridge and microwave, king size bed, small table w/2 chairs and a sofa.

Everything would have been very nice if it had only been clean and in good repair. I use a breathing machine at night and in moving the nightstand to get to a plug, it was so filthy and cruddy with dirt and garbage dropped behind the stand, which I was disgusted with the dirt I would be breathing.

The toilet had dried bowel splatters from the previous guest. UGH! We had 2 towels, 2 wash cloths and 2 hand towels, of the very thin variety, soap and shampoo. But if you washed your hair and used the towel to dry your hair, you then would not have a towel to dry your body with, as the one towel could not do both jobs.

The carpet was dirty, the door jam going into the bathroom was rotted away for about 8" from the floor. We were in a handicap room, the door going into the bath area was very unhandy, as you had to enter the sink area, close the door to get to the clothes hanging area, then open the door to get out.

The TV worked on about half the stations it was supposed to work on, with a lot of static, etc on many of them.

We had trouble getting the electronic room key to work every time we entered the room. It usually took us a dozen tries or more to get the door to open. I was not happy standing outside our room for five minutes trying to get the door open at night when we returned from dinner.

The continental breakfast was just adequate, the orange juice the first day was mostly water, the second day they had none. They had 2 kinds of cereal, white bread to toast, mini-danish and bananas, coffee, milk, tea. It's just that with everything looking kind of dirty, you wondered about the food. I did not go for breakfast the second day, but my husband did.

This hotel has not had a good cleaning or renovation in a long time. Everything was dirty and cruddy around the edges.

The front door and glass of the office was filthy.

When I asked why the bill was $4.00 higher than what I had been quoted, and had a print out showing my charges, including tax. I was told by the morning clerk that "there's a $2.00 surcharge per night but I don't know what it's for"

I would never stay there again and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Maybe for workers looking for an inexpensive place to stay.

I made a mistake believing Days Inn's own rating of 3 out of 5. As we are on a fixed income I was trying to find something reasonable, as I had to go to a doctor close by. We had to drive 3 hours each way to get to Orlando and stay for two nights.

One bed was so worn out it was like sleeping in a pita pocket. The TV remote did not work. But the security guard went to the office and replaced it promptly!

I am somewhat likely to return to the Days Inn Midtown Downtown.

The rooms smelled bad, the TV sound did not work properly, the plumbing was stopped up and leaking, and the bathroom door was hard to open and shut.
