57 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure
Very Unhappy Guests. We chose the Asheville Crowne Plaza Resort for our Blue Ridge Mountains vacation because of the advanced purchase deal we found on the Internet. The location was ok - very close to downtown and the Biltmore, but in somewhat of a sketchy area and hard to find coming right off the highway. The hotel itself is recently remodeled and very beautiful. The rooms were very nice, clean and spacious. The staff was courteous, however, we found it "cheesy" that guests were asked to show ID when checking in and log their license plates. I normally stay at Marriott Hotels when traveling for business and have never been asked to do this. I would love to recommend the hotel, and as I mentioned there were many wonderful features and our stay was pleasant. But because of one major exception, I would never recommend this hotel. We were over-charged for one night and spent hours resolving this. We reserved 5 nights for a set price and paid in full, in advance. Upon returning home, our credit card statement showed a new charge of $106.52. My husband contacted the billing manager about this and his response was that we had been "under charged" and the hotel was charging us for this. Needless to say, that didn't go over well. What's the point of getting an advance rate and paying up front if they can pull this nonsense? Further, we were never informed at check-in or check-out that a new charge was being applied to our card and this was very shady. Our check-out balance was $0 as we expected. Long story short, we spent several hours on the phone with (1)our bank, (2)leaving unreturned messages for the billing manager (after my husband used the term "bait and switch," the billing manager ended the call and would not return later calls), (3)headquarters customer service and finally, (4)a customer service manager only to find out that we were not UNDERCHARGED as stated before, but that we were charged for a FULL DAY beyond what we stayed. Sorry, but that is not an oversight. Charging someone for an extra day is intentional, particularly when the guest pre-pays for their stay. I'm sure many folks may not notice this and that's why the hotel thinks they can play this game. Our card was credited, but we spent hours of aggravation in attempting to have our own money returned to us with no comp whatsoever, just a half-hearted apology. And to think a quick apology from the billing manager and a prompt credit on that first phone call would have fixed everything. Crowne Plaza Resort - you have lost our business! We have happily told all our friends and family about your terrible service. Future guests, check your statements closely!
I am not likely
to return to the Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville.
I would not recommend it to friends.

Mediocre
I was hoping to find something a little nicer in the Holiday Inn lineup for my business trips to Asheville. I thought Crowne Plaza hotels were supposed to be better than this. The location although close to Asheville, very difficult to get in and...

Good
If you enjoy golf, this is the place to be! Room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was a bit small and cramped. Staff helpful. Check-in is at this hotel is 4 PM, not 3 PM.
