35 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for business
I drove up to the hotel to unload my bags and asked for a cart. I noticed that the valets were hi-fiving another customer and letting his oversized van park in the driveway.
I wanted to have my luggage taken care of carefully, but felt rushed upon. I said at that point that I want to take my own luggage, which contained over $25,000 of camera equipment, to my room by myself.
I was waiting when other guests arrived and parked behind me. Finally, my cart came and they insisted that I move my vehicle and leave my luggage in the lobby. I insisted that I be able to see my luggage at all times and asked them not to take it out of my site as I moved my car. They begrudgingly complied. I moved my car 50 feet forward as they requested and gathered my things. As I was going to check-in they wanted the keys to my brand new Porsche to move it and I refused.
After I checked in, this particular valet insisted that he take my things to my room for me to which I refused. They followed me to my room and took the cart there after. I have heard of having the bums rush on your way out but never on your way in. It is an observation of mine that all of the attendants were of non-European descent. Myself being of European descent, I could feel the contempt from these employees. It is unfair to say that they were prejudiced for these reasons, but I must insist that every traveler knows that this is not a perfect world. I had no choice but to stay at this poor excuse of a hotel that night, being very weary from a long and extended drive in LA rush hour traffic. The attendants had no empathy for my circumstances but treated me as if I were cattle.
I highly recommend that this hotel be avoided. The rooms are very small. The 'entertainment center' is a 19" television, the internet connection has censorship software set to 'overbearing parent'. I had a nicer evening at a humble Motel 6 where the employees didn't have the pretense of Beverly Hills to use as an excuse for arrogant snobbery.
By the way, when I returned to move my car the oversized van was still parked in the same place, and it wasn't a shuttle.
