48 year old with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
Upon leaving the parking garage after a Christmas party we were held up like criminals over a $2.50 parking fee.
The company sponsoring the party pre-paid parking for employees and their guests, however, the Marriott dropped the ball and neglected to let the parking attendants know about our free "company paid" parking and thats where the nightmare began.
One of the male parking attendants was rude and obnoxious to me and my husband. After bantering back and forth with my husband for about 15 mins., he decided to call a supervisor. When the supervisor came down she was just as obnoxious and caused an extremely embarrassing scene for us. She stood in back of my car like an air traffic controller telling me to move my car over to the next "closed" lane. Meanwhile, as they were trying to get confirmation about the free parking, the cars in lined were backed up to the 7th level in the garage.
As if that wasn't bad enough, they called a police officer to the scene. The officer showed no signs of trying to intelligently diffuse the situation. He then asked me, the driver of the vehicle, for my license and registration. Like as if I did something to break the law. This whole scene went on for about an hour. Then finally someone acknowledge from the company sponsoring the party that there was a serious mistake. It gets even better, after all that, I had to leave my car in the parking garage, get out at 11pm at night and walk back into the Marriott to get my ticket validated by someone who just wrote on the back that the parking was free. Mind you, the ticket itself was printed up with "free" parking written on it. The night crew and supervisor that were on that night were totally inept. They should be fired for all the confusion and embarrassment they caused. Shame on the supervisor for the poor way she handled the situation.
By all means, I would have no problem paying a $2.50 parking fee, however, I do have a problem paying a fee for something that was pre-paid...part of the benefit of the holiday event and I do take offense to being treated like criminal for someone elses mistake.
Because Marriott is in the "HOSPITALITY" business, they need to hire employees who can think on their feet and diffuse situations better than what they displayed. It was humiliating and unacceptable.
