While traveling for 3 weeks we had our worst experiences here. Waited 40 minutes along with other unhappy guests for the room to be ready. Were quoted 3 different rates & charged the highest rate. After being awake all night due to the unbelievably

Found the hotel with no problems and the place was great. the outdoor area with the rocking chairs overlooking the marina was a nice place to have a drink in the evening. Our room had a comfy bed and we even had a balcony. I liked the breakfast too

Good
The staff was extremely helpful. After a red-eye they let us check-in early. I was part of a wedding party and they were friendly and helpful with everything. The location is great. Easy access to downtown and beautiful spot to be.
We had two rooms, and they gave both of us handicap rooms, only one with a balcony. The handicap rooms are not as nice as the non-handicap rooms. The bathrooms take up too much room, and you have to close the bathroom door to go behind it to turn...

When we checked in (2 rooms), they gave us both handicap accessible rooms. They were awful. The sinks had very little room to set anything down, and you had to close the bathroom door to turn the light on inside the bathroom, which was a pain the neck. The beds felt like plywood and had very, very thin mattress pads on them. Our second room had a love seat that was totally ripped on one arm. We were on the 2nd floor and could hear every step above us. After one night, we asked to be moved to a non-handicap room with a balcony. They were very accommodating (I'm silver elite - don't know if that mattered), and our new room was much better. The pool was unheated and freezing, even in late April. The patio and pool area were clean and very nice, as was the bar area. All public areas were very nice, in fact, but the rooms were nothing special. The beds were awful. If you stay here, book a room on the 4th floor with a balcony, non-handicap.
Not having been to Charleston before, my wife and I chose the Marriott from past experience. We weren't dissappointed. Friendly help, clean hotel and amenities as we expected made this trip very enjoyable. The river view was great and we were close...
