Location. With dazzling views of San Diego's downtown skyline, the Marriott Coronado Island occupies 16 waterfront acres on Coronado Island's eastern edge. This charming resort property is five miles from downtown San Diego and features a water taxi that transports guests between Coronado Island and the Marriott Marina in San Diego. A popular destination for families and tourists, the Coronado Beach is only 10 blocks from the hotel. The Ferry Landing Marketplace is just a short walk away from the resort along a boardwalk/bike path. Hotel Features. In the tradition of a seaside European resort, the Marriott Coronado Island is adorned with Romanesque columns, unexpected waterfalls, private terraces and serene gardens. The outdoor recreational complex consists of three lagoon-style pools, six tennis courts and soothing spa tubs that rest in the shade of stately palm trees. The hotel's prized restaurant, L'Escale, bills itself as a brasserie that serves Mediterranean cuisine with California flair. Other property features include business services, conference facilities and fitness equipment. Guestrooms. With handsome wood surfaces, baby palm trees and bold interior design, these ocean view guestrooms appear to be an extension of the hotel's natural surroundings. Each of the 300 guestrooms features a balcony or patio, luxurious bedding, an oversized bathroom and wireless Internet access. Expert Tip. Beloved by children, the Marriott Coronado Island is home to a flock of Chilean pink flamingos that punctuate a pond near the hotel's entrance. Furthermore, this Marriott has a resident dog, Tweed, who is a friendly border collie and adored by both locals and travelers.

Excellent
The decor was really cool.Parking is very pricey. We really enjoyed being away from all the city noise, walking along the waterfront and the resort atmosphere is very relaxing. Access to the city is OK, it could be confusing on a weekday morning...

Okay
Food was good, location okay, nice bathtub. The room smelled like mildew. This hotel was okay but would not recommend it for someone who has allergies to mold.
A bit pricy for the accomodations

Excellent
The room was clean and spacious. The smell of disinfectant was overwhelming. There was nothing to keep your drinks cool. The $355.00 + $20.00 for self parking+ 25.44 for room tax. You must request a room with a view for the same price. $727.34 for...

Do not be mislead by the "Resort" in this hotel's title. There is no way that this is a resort - there is no beach - that is across town (get in your car and find and pay for parking). But the Marriott is priced like a resort, without any resort ammenities. I stayed at 3 different hotels in San Diego on my stay, and this was by far the worst value. Cost $200 more than similar hotels in San Diego - for what? Tennis courts, birds in cages, couches in hallways and high priced facials I guess. The Marriott has been located on an old Navy housing area on the bay, over a mile to the beach. Large sewage pipes dump Coronado's street runoff and other waste into Marriott's waterfront. As a local said, "The water is not swimmable here, but they don't like to let the tourists know that." The pool was average, crowded and cloudy - not much else to do here. Check-in is a late 4 pm. If you would like to get into your room an hour or two early, you can "upgrade" for $40 plus taxes and fees for a bay view (sending the price to around $400/night). Cleaning staff could not have the regularly priced rooms ready till after 4, and I was chastised for arriving early. Maybe 1/3 of the "bay view" rooms may have nice San Diego views, the rest look over the non descript bridge and ship building waterfront. The $340 rooms overlook the street, tennis courts, etc. $20/day more for self parking, though you are far from the main part of Coronado with its restaurants and beaches. Save the $20/day and park on the street - it's empty. Internet access is only free for your first afternoon, after midnight, you have to pay. There's a resort ferry for $12/person that will take you to the San Diego Marriott - a nice idea, but last return is 7 pm so forget going out for dinner - again get in your car and find and pay for parking. The room is clean and large but lacks simple things like a refrigerator or fan in the bathroom. The toiletries are tiny, nothing special - Bodyworks, and include only shampoo, conditioner and lotion and this is a spa. Bring your own supplies because you have to pay resort prices for bottled non refrigerated water and snacks, and there's no store within walking distance, only the sleepy Ferry's Landing (you're on the far side of town) without sit down breakfast. (Though the Italian restaurant has a nice little morning bakery and great espresso.) Breakfast is good, but it should be at $20/person, with wait staff that does not smile. Only the hotel cleaning staff offered a smile during my entire stay. Marriott must not pay their workers very well, but they are trained to get the most dollars out of you. Be prepared to get nickel and dimed for everything, even after paying top dollar - and you'll start looking grumpy like the staff and other guests. Don't bother booking on "3rd party discount brokers" (Orbitz) as the check-in clerks called them, you'll get the worst rooms, and they can't find your reservation unless you have a Marriott reservation number starting with an 8. I had to return to my car to unpack my computer, find my booking number and return, and still they could not find my reservation, nor would they honor the huge $25 pay with Visa coupon unless you booked through Marriott. Finally my reservation was found "under exceptions", "other" reservation numbers do not work in their system. Luckily they had no basement rooms to put me in. San Diego is a great city to visit with lots of interesting hotels, Coronado is a very nice town, close to the city with beautiful beaches. Do yourself a favor and find a hotel within walking distance to the beach and restaurants and save yourself more than $200/night. Or splurge, pay $50 more and stay at the historic Del right on the beach, parking is $10. The Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa can't compare, it's a rip off. BTW, Coronado is not an island, it's a peninsula.
