From the website this place looks amazing. But beware!
We have been traveling around the Asheville and Charlotte Area for the last 12 days and found all our accommodation online. I point this out to show that we have not seen any place so grossly misrepresented by their website. It states on the website ""Re-opened after an extensive renovation, Copper Crest is a place to enjoy the new and the historic. Renovations continue throughout the property to make it a dream location for all to enjoy."
If you call half the garden rooms still full of junk and unusable as continued renovations that's a bit of an overstatement. The main house looks wonderful and I am sure the suites are great but the garden rooms are not up to the website representation. The room had a very nice bed and the bathroom is new but the windows on the outside are the old levered type that don't close all the way and you are left hearing the neighbors, the guy mowing, the dogs barking.....not the relaxing sounds of a lake resort. The blinds are the cheap plastic type that don't close completely and there are no curtains. No feeling of privacy.
The house and garden rooms are NOT on a Lake nor is there a view of the Lake from your room. There are old homes between the resort and the Lake. It is not a long walk to the small lake but you do not get the feel of being on a lake like such places as the Scenic Overlook at Pilot Mountain or the Greystone Inn on Lake Toxaway. We stayed at both of these locations on our trip and they properly represent their lakeside location. Both are wonderful and their websites understate if anything their locations.
The pool and tennis courts are usuable. The pool was full of leaves and looked as if it had not been cleaned for days. We asked about another room and were offered only a suite which was quoted earlier when we called as $285.00 a night. (Really what I consider overpriced for the condition of the resort.) Instead we asked for a refund. We were told when we made this reservation that there was a no refund policy but considering the condition of the resort we felt the misrepresentation on the resort warranted a refund. We did not stay the night but were charged for the stay.
I did call the next morning and asked for the manager. The front desk staff stated the manger was not available but could she help me. I began to explain the stay and she then stated SHE was the manager. That is not a good sign when the manager lies about their position. I asked again for a refund due to the condition of the resort and windows and lack of privacy of the room and she stated we "did not pay for the whole resort only a room." and "you were offered another room." True but we did pay for a resort accommodation which in all of our previous travels and stays has always meant the whole common areas, pool and all.
