Stay Away
rmklein3 icon A horrible place to stay

53 year old with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

My group was going to arrive at this hotel at 12:30-1 AM Oct. 28-29th. I faxed the rooming list so that the staff would be able to have all the room keys ready when our group requesting 68 rooms arrived. We did arrive as scheduled at about 12:45 am and had all the students remain on the buses while the band director and myself went to check in and receive the hotel keys. We were immediately told that only 10 room keys were ready! When I told the front desk clerks that this was to be ready for us they just said that they did not have time to get it done. The Band Director requested to know what rooms were adjoining so that not to have boys next to girls. To that question, the desk clerks could not answer him. Finally, they had produced a long list of all rooms from the hotel for us to scan and figure out which were adjoining. No map of the rooms adjoining was given to us. During all this confusion, the first 10 rooms were distributed to some of the students. While Mr. F. and I were being very patient and still asking about adjoining rooms, one of the chaperones appeared next to me at the front desk to report that in room 1101 the toilet had just over flowed and as flooding the room. She requested to have a custodian called and come to help with the situation and the ladies at the front desk just looked at each other and said nothing. Our chaperone asked for another room for the girls and we were told that the hotel was full and there was nothing available. Our chaperone then requested a toilet plunger and a bunch of towels to clean up the mess. I was appalled that proper help was not available. As we waited for the room keys to be made, that took about 45 minutes, we had other problems, of hearing from the students and chaperones of the filth in the bathrooms and the horrible smell in the rooms.

Finally, my husband and I got to our room only to see that what was told was true. As we entered that part of the hotel the smell from the hallways really hit us. We entered our room only to find that the bathrooms were really disgusting with mold and mildew all over the grout and caulking. The carpeting was really dirty and in need of being replaced. I was so glad that I brought slippers!

Then the real fun began, as the chaperones were making rounds we were confronted with another toilet in room 2206 that had feces in it when the students first went to use it. The drain in the tub in room 3301 was not working so that the boys in that room had to be escorted by the chaperones to another room to shower and that took till 2:30 am!

I found out, from my own son, about the hole in the wall on the trip home the next morning. He told me that the boys in that room, 4409, could not believe they had a hole in their wall when they arrived at the room. They thought that it was odd, that a hotel would give out a room with a hole in the wall. With all the chaos and confusion the boys did not tell the chaperones about the hole in their room when they arrived. They just showed a few other kids the condition of their room since they were so amazed and stunned. Then, they just stayed in their room and went to bed.

I cannot believe that they have not seen the conditions of these rooms. I would think that it would be a concern of theirs to see what they are renting out each evening to their customers. I highly suggest that they take a tour of the hotel and get it fixed, cleaned and get some staff that is capable to assist their guests. I still wonder how the Board of Health has passed this hotel on inspection.

We were so very disappointed with the condition of this Comfort Inn. I was terribly embarrassed that I had taken my school, student and chaperones, to such a disgusting place to sleep on our trip.

I am not likely to return to the Comfort Inn Conference Center Tampa.
I would not recommend it to friends.
