I am concerned about the lack of customer service the Comfort Inn Dumfries staff exhibited during my recent stay. I was charged for one night on September 12, 2009 on my credit card and billed a total of $122.57. I have a couple of issues I want to address about this. During my check-in, the front desk clerk swiped my credit card but did not explain any of the procedures regarding how my credit card would be charged, nor did she provide me with any type of receipt. Subsequently, I noted that a hold of $140.00 had been placed on my card. After I departed the following day, I phoned the hotel and was told that the $140.00 hold had been placed for “incidental expenses” that may be incurred for phone charges and/or damages to the room. None of this was explained to me upon check-in. Also, the desk clerk I talked to on the phone told me that the hotel does not provide a receipt until the guest has checked out of the hotel. This is wrong: any time a credit card is swiped, a receipt needs to be provided to the guest, otherwise, the person being charged has no idea what is being charged or for what reason. I stayed the prior night at the Comfort Inns Suites in Waldorf, Maryland and had no problem with being provided a receipt upon check-in. In fact, I was only charged $94.34 for a one night stay. Also, the Comfort Inns Suites did not place any type of hold on my credit card. Why is the Comfort Inn in Dumfries, VA charging more and not providing a hotel receipt upon check-in? The policy of placing a credit card hold for damages to the room or for phone charges, indicates they did not trust me, despite the fact that I was able to produce several forms of picture identification. This is unacceptable. I will never stay at the Comfort Inn in Dumfries again and will encourage everyone else I meet to do the same. I understand they have a business to run, however, they need to understand that customer service revolves around treating people like you would like to be treated. I certainly wasn’t planning on utilizing the hotel phone or causing any damage to the room. I think that if they Comfort Inn in Dumfries, VA changed their behavior toward guests and treated them as such, they might have more business.

The room was extremely clean unlike the Sleep Inn across the street (I had to move hotels because the Sleep Inn was infested with bed bugs..yuck!), but I felt like it was a little overpriced for the area it's located in. Location wise it's perfect
