Formerly a German bakery, this hotel

Good
Formerly a German bakery, this hotel seems more like it's teetering on the line of being a B&B, although technically it calls itself an Inn. There are unique lofts available with spiral staircases; complimentary wine and bourbon on the bar...

Mediocre
Went with the impression it was similar to a b&B but was very disappointed. For $*, the bathroom was not very clean with black mildew/mold on the fixtures/handles in the shower. Very blah room - nothing outstanding like the picture showed! Feel...

My husband and I went there for our anniversary and it was not what we thought we were paying for. The pics on the internet were not of the room we paid for. Yes, the tubs do not drain it was awful.

The hotel is extremely charming but nothing works, and I stayed in two different rooms. The internet access here is intermittent, the hot tub is and will stay broken, the loft rooms are hot upstairs and freezing downstairs, the bathroom tubs do not drain, I had water around my ankles, stiff towels/sheets, and many burnt out light bulbs.
The walls have considerable water damage and peeling wallpaper. Not all of the rooms have fridges and/or microwaves. They have turn down service, but only if you ask for it. The staff argues with you if you ask for any kind of repair. The manager tries, but says that his hands are tied by the corporate owner. There are too many maintenance issues here.
I am not likely
to return to the Claussens Inn.
I would not recommend it to friends.
It was very convenient to the USC campus. Lots to do within walking distance. The room had a lot of character and was an overall great experience. It was like staying in a friend's home.

Okay
The concierge could not give us directions to the hotel. Also he had never heard of the Colonial Center. Then he guessed that it was at least 5 miles from the hotel. (it's only 1 mile) The rooms are a little musky, but overall everything else...

Good
The Inn is a neat little Bed and Breakfast that is built inside the old Classen's Bakery in 5 Points. Check Inn was smooth and the staff was informed. Mr. Friendly's the attached restaurant is a must if you like New South cuisine.
