Upon the approach to the Clarion Hotel you feel you are sneaking away from the hustle and bustle to a different part of the world. The hotel is nestled between trees and its appearance from the outside is very picturesque, a hidden gem in a highly populated industrial town. Unfortunately at the time of our stay they had recently had a flood and water damage was evident. We were very pleased to find that our beloved dog was permitted to stay at the hotel with us, which we weren’t expecting because she is the size of a small horse. The room we were given was pretty basic. Hair dryer, trouser press and tea and coffee facilities were there however to my partner’s horror, there were no complimentary biscuits. Once we got passed the biscuit discussion we perused the room service menu which wasn’t too bad and very reasonably priced, a small tray charge of a few pounds. Throughout the stay we dined at the hotel restaurant. The menu was outstanding, with some delicious dishes. The service on the other hand can be very slow, on one occasion it took over an hour for the main course, still worth the wait though especially for the slow roast belly pork with thyme potatoes….gorgeous!! Keeping with the food the breakfast is a good selection both cooked and from the buffet table. Every morning I managed to squeeze enough down to keep me going well passed lunch. So not to ramble on about food too much the hotel location is ideal for those wanting to see the sights Telford has to offer. A stone throw away from Ironbridge and the other tourists’ spots such as Coalbrookdale and the various museums the area has to offer. All of which are easily accessible by car, taxi or even a relaxing stroll, which I would recommend. That way you can enjoy all of the traditional ales that the pubs on route have an endless supply of. To sum up the rooms could be better, however the location and food is ideal for a hungry tourist such as me.
