Clarion Hotel Conference Center Louisville

Our family checked in on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. First of all, let me say the "check in" staff was very wonderful. But, we were very surprised how outdated the hotel had become from when we stayed there in the past for many many years. All the furniture were outdated, especially the TV. The carpet, wallpaper, beddings were old and worn out. And the bathroom?? Need I say more!!!!. However, we stayed anyway because of the "FUN" memories we had experienced from years ago.

Our "NIGHTMARE" started on Thursday, April 17, 2008, with a staff member, Mr. Michael Ray. Mr. Ray "YELLED" at my adult daughters, not talking, but YELLED!!!!!!. My family went home extremely upset by this event.

I left a message on Mr. Chris Kasuba, General Manager, voice mail, asking him to please call me at my home telephone about our experience. Well, I heard nothing from him.

So after I calmed down, several weeks later, I sent a 5 page certified "complaint letter" to Mr. Kasuba on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Mr. Kasuba did call me the next day, Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at noon time, when he received my letter. He did say to me, that this was the first time he had heard of this, and he was very sorry that this event happened to our family. I thought we had resolved this issue by him "willingly" suggesting, that he would personally write a letter of apologize to my daughters. Well, it's been over a month now, and "STILL", we have received "NOTHING" from Mr. Kasuba!!!!!

I say to you, Mr. Kasuba,..... I'm going to take further action and write to the Better Business Bureau. Because your advertisement on the hotel's web site claims: "The Hurstbourne Hotel provides the guests with a professionally trained staff which possesses an intense drive for operational excellence toward guest satisfaction."

This is not what my family experienced from your hotel, and YOU. You did not follow through with what you promised to me and my family.

A business seminar was being held in the conference center so I made reservations to stay in this hotel. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful. Unfortunately, this could not make up for the fact this hotel is in deplorable shape. The mattresses looked like they had been salvaged from the dump. The springs were coming through and a blanket had been folded in fours and placed between the mattress and fitted sheet. The velour blanket had dry rotted and felt like a sponge. There was no remote to the television. The carpet was disgusting, stained, smelled. The toilet tank would not stop filling. There was no A/C to the hallways and they had a strong odor of what smelled like urine. None of the exterior "secure" doors were locked ever. The internet does not and apparently has never worked. The last straw was going to the fitness room and getting on the treadmill. The belt did not work and the motor made a loud sound like it was going to blow up. This was at 8:30 p.m. I walked over to the Marriott, which is located behind this hotel's conference center and secured a room for the rest of my stay. I retrieved my belongings and told the front desk I was checking out, that I had had enough and they provided me with a full refund, including the previous night's stay. No questions asked.

I would highly recommend if you are reserving a room in this area of Louisville or plan to attend a business function at the conference center at Clarion that you stay at the Marriott. The rooms were not that much more and it was well worth the extra money. By the way, I was not the only person attending this particular conference who checked out of the Clarion and moved to the Marriott due to the dilapidated condition of the Clarion. And according to personnel at the Marriott, this happens quite frequently. Don't waste your time or money at the Clarion (or Studio Lodge I believe it is actually called as it is no longer affiliated with the Clarion franchise).

My son's soccer team booked the room; otherwise, we would not have stayed the night. The "secure entry" exterior door to the hallway did not lock at all. The hallway needed a coat of paint or at least a good vacuuming. The room smelled of stale smoke for a nonsmoking room. The sheets were stained, there was noticeable water damage on the ceiling with drooping ceiling tiles, and the bathroom was not clean. We travel frequently and do not expect Champagne on a beer budget; however, we do expect a clean room.

Thanks to a employee who works the front desk and the fact that room was a mess and dirty with ants and cockroaches, I am never in my life going to stay here again. I can not believe it allowed to stay in business. Me and my wife who were traveling at the time and could not find a room else where, ended up here. I wish we would have just slept in the car. The man who was working the front desk that night was very rude when we told him of the bug problem, he just laughed and i am serious when I say this, he said do let the bed bugs bite. I just could not believe how bad the service and hotel was. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager and that there was nothing he could do. Well I will tell you what i did, and that is not staying at another one of these hotels ever again.

This hotel is the worst place I have ever stayed at in my life. The guy working the front desk was very rude and the room was a mess. Like I said do not stay here, or you will regret it just like I did.
