Good
traveling for leisure

August 15-19,2009, we took our grandkids age 11 and 13 and they enjoyed the Adventure Dome with all day pass ($20-25) for the rides. It is one of the older hotel/casinos near the north end of the strip. Our remodeled 35th floor room in the West Tower was nicely updated, clean, roomy, and quiet. Good value at $50 per night. Express elevators to upper floors were efficient. No coffee maker in room. In-house McDonalds, Krispy Kreme, Auntie Anne's and there is a Subway sandwich shop in the attached Slots-O-Fun. Other restaurants including the Pizzeria and the Buffet were OK. Did not try the other restaurants. Nice large and new upscale McDonalds with standard pricing is next door to Slots-O-Fun. Food in most casinos is getting costly. Hotel Lobby and entrance is a bit depressing and in need of improved lighting otherwise OK. Keep in mind, this place caters to kids and they are everywhere. The pool(s) are a bit inconvenient to reach and the poolside refreshments are pricey. "The Duece" double-decker bus is air conditioned and is a good value. It travels the strip from downtown to the south strip and stops right in front of the hotel (slots-o-fun) as well as frequent stops along the strip. You can pay exact cash on the bus (no change made), or there are vending machines (accept credit or cash) for bus tickets in front of slots-o-fun. The full fare cost for adults is $3 per ride or $7 for an all day pass or $15 for a 3-day pass all available from the vending machine. Note that reduced fare for children under 18 and senior adults pay half these fare amounts, but you can't purchase these tickets from the machine unless you have obtained a reduced fare ID card (good for 5 years) from either the North or South Transit Center (make sure you have identification with birthdate). You can pay the half fare for a ride with exact change on the bus.
