First impression was not great as there seemed to be very few parking attendants on a night with lots going on in the city. I had to wait quite a while. During this time I was visited by confused parking attendants who could not take my car b/c I had not been issued a ticket. It seems this system is broken and needs to be fixed.
My check in experience was excellent as I received a complimentary upgrade to a "family suite" since they had available rooms. I didn't even get the chance to complain about the parking issue. :) The room was a nice size although it was difficult to find a working light switch. Some lights worked and some did not. The decor was a bit dated while others had clearly been upgraded. The sheets on one of the beds appeared to not have been cleaned well as lots of lint and debris was still attached. I opted to sleep in the other full size bed as a result.
The TVs were nice flat-screen HD LCDs which were nice. The view of Grant Park and the museum campus was excellent. And the location was superb as I needed to be in walking distance of the museum campus.
The pool and patio area seemed pleasant from my window, as I was unable to take advantage of them during my stay.
I am somewhat likely
to return to the Chicago's Essex Inn.
I might recommend it to friends.

Good
Our room was on the small side, as was the bathroom, but it was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. It had the duvet-type beddding, instead of a nasty bedspread, and I always appreciate that. We paid $* for our room, and were happy to find a...

This hotel is very close to the Shedd aquarium and Field museum, that was the main reason why I booked it, and that it is one of only a few hotels in downtown Chicago with an indoor pool. We were quite pleased with how easy it was to find. The...

We loved the location and the price of our room! The cleanliness of the room and bath was one of the first things I noticed. The bed's comfort was heavenly! We were within walking distance of Lake Michigan, the Sears Tower and Union Station. ...
