The Chateau Mont Sainte Anne hotel in Beaupre, Quebec was an absolute nightmare and should only be considered as an alternative to camping out in below zero temperatures. Sadly it is a classic small town "tourist trap".
Do not let their self proclaimed 4 star rating fool you. Go to chateaumontsainteanne.com to see for yourself. Their slick website is deceiving. It shows beautiful panoramas, stock photos and photos of rooms that are not the actual room they promise you.
The hotel was filthy. The "non smoking" room smelled like an ashtray and the room in the carpet was peppered with cigarette burns. This was the second room that they moved me to. The first one was even worse.
The toilets are low and child sized making it difficult to fit if you are over 4'8".
There is no bellman available to carry your bags to your room in the evening and he is also not available in the daytime even though they have a luggage cart which they refuse to allow you to use requiring you to carry your own bags. When I complained to the front desk staff they were rude.
The mattress on the bed had no springs. It was filled with a very hard substance like compressed hay so that you wake up in pain after tossing and turning all night trying to find a comfortable spot. When you do turn in bed the bed creaks loudly waking you up each time.
There was black mold in the bathroom area which was disgusting because it had not been cleaned and the drinking glasses were dirty.
Worst of all was the stench of feces that I could not explain coming from the rug I think. In all fairness I do not know whether it was human feces or animal feces.
