41 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

The hotel has a great pool, but it is a very noisy resort. The water sprinklers go off at five o'clock in the morning. I heard the noise caused by the power washers cleaning the sidewalk and the construction going on.

I approached the front desk about the noise problem and they were very accommodating and tried to fix the problem.

I am not likely to return to the Castle Kiahuna Plantation & The Beach Bungalows.
I would not recommend it to friends.

I really like this hotel. I had a problem with roaches in the bathroom.

They upgraded our room when we arrived.

I am very likely to return to the Castle Kiahuna Plantation & The Beach Bungalows.

Good

The pool was across the street and down the road, and was closed when we tried to go.. The hours were terrible, since all day we would be at the beach.. Usually you'd like to go for a swim or in the jacuzzi after sun down, but you can't here. Also...

This was a condo that was very quiet, very comfortable and close to the beach. The staff was very helpful in arranging tours for sightseeing and activities. There is so much to do and see. This location is excellent for any reason, from a honeymoon to a family vacation.

The service staff was in and out quickly, they answered all requests quickly. They were very efficient.

I did want to mention a problem we had in Kauai. At the Kiahuna Plantation, we had booked a Garden View room. It had been many years since I stayed at Kiahuna. I had not remembered that they have some large buildings on the outskirts of the complex. In fact, those may have been built after hurricane Iniki. I had assumed that a garden view condo would be in one of the smaller buildings on the lawn.

We were very unhappy with the room for several reasons. As we learned there, each condo is individually owned, and Outrigger does not seem to enforce at minimum standard of appointments or quality among the condo's they represent. The first problem with the room was that the mattress was old and sagged badly. We complained and they put a board under the mattress that mostly helped fix the problem. The second problem was with the noise. The condo was close to the road, and the "windows" in Kiahuna Plantation are open-air plantation shutters. As a result, we heard all of the noise from the cars with no barrier of glass. But another, and even bigger, noise problem came from the chickens. I'm not sure if you are aware, but there is huge problem with wild chickens on Kauai. We were told that cock fighting is popular and when hurricane Iniki hit, it released the cock fighting chickens from their cages and they are now breeding in the wild. I'm not sure if that story is true, but, regardless, the chickens are everywhere. That was a problem for us because the roosters would start crowing at 5 am and wake us up. We complained and Outrigger only offered us another condo that was on the road-side of the complex with, presumably, the same noise problems. I ended up speaking with the Property Manager at Kiahuna. I don't think she is affiliated with Outrigger. She moved us to an ocean view condo that was away from the noise and we were happy about that. Unfortunately, those events put a damper on the first few days in Kauai.

To summarize:

- You may want to advise your clients that some condo's at Kiahuna Plantation will have noise problems and those condos should be avoided.

- Outrigger was not helpful in finding us a room that did not have a noise problem.

- Since the condo's at Kiahuna Plantation are individually owned and the standards are set by the owners, not by Outrigger, the quality level can vary. Another example: Our oceanview condo was mostly clean, but the bathroom faucet was totally chipped and needs to be replaced. The bottom line is that customers at Kiahuna Planataion should not expect the same level of quality as they would receive at a hotel.
