Our $835 second floor room was nicely appointed albeit cramped. The bath was very pretty but there was no water pressure in the shower. Our room was above the busy kitchen so we heard dinner being prepped at 5pm and at 11pm heard recycling bins being dumped below our window.
The round dining room was beautiful especially at sunset. The meal spanned two hours and 20 minutes. Service was very slow. Food was good but we had a bad half bottle of '03 Opus One for $144. The "sommelier" /maitre d' told us that the bottle "met with his satisfaction" but he offered to help us find something we would like better. He did not seem to understand that there is no wine we like better than Opus One and that this was a bad bottle. He returned 20 minutes later to pour a glass of a nice French Bordeaux which he said "is my gift to you". The bill arrived with the $144 bottle on it which we did not question since he poured 3 other glasses of wine with no charge. After giving our credit card, the waiter came back with a revised bill without the wine.
Seven years ago, we had the duck and were stricken with food poisoning in the middle of the night. We thought given the Relais & Chateau designation, it would be safe to return to Castle Hill. We won't be fooled again.
