member icon Terrible hotel and staff

I was there for a convention and booked the hotel online. I was not made aware of the construction that was taking place all around and in the property.

The elevator barely worked and the stairwell was full of construction equipment. There was no direct route to anything due to the boarding up of most walkways for various construction projects. The place was as noisy as a jackhammer convention. My credit card was also incorrectly charged and I was met with such inflexibility that I could not get this fixed with the hotel managers.

The hotel said they offered child sitter services, yet they could not do this. I booked a dive trip through the hotel and was not warned how terrible the conditions would be for this time of year. I have stayed at many resorts that were aimed at luxury and securing your future business, but this place was not one of them.

The staff was unfriendly and inflexible. I feel I was misled into a tourist trap. I have stayed in bug ridden hostels and have had less hard feelings. I feel that this hotel experience overshadows other thoughts of what would have been a great vacation. I recommend this hotel to others who would like to have their vacation ruined.

It is a 1920's hotel built by the famous Henry Flagler, and it has a crescent shaped beach that no other hotel has due to the time when the land was purchased.

You cannot duplicate this amount of land now for a hotel. It has a very nice courtyard restaurant and Tiki-like bar all around the pool, and the rooms are pretty nice. They are not the most luxurious rooms, but they were definitely on the luxurious side. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you wanted a fantastic beach location, class and if you have kids or just want romance. If you want only to party, stay on Duval or Front Street, but this is the best my opinion for the beach and the hotel is very nice.

I have seen the newer hotels, and they may be more modern, but I like the "Grand Opulence" of this place, the antiquity and the grace.

We made reservations at the Casa Marina Resort. We chose this resort after looking at many options available via the internet. The accommodations inside our room were plush and very nice. The construction took us by surprise, an unpleasant surprise.

Looking out my balcony, I not only had a view of the Atlantic Ocean, I had a view of an active construction site along with all the sounds to include jackhammers, bulldozers dumping pieces of concrete into large metal waste containers and the alert signal of large trucks backing up. In addition to the noises from outside, above my floor, it sounded as if old flooring was being taking up with a jackhammer. The clatter started at daybreak each day.

Friday morning, when we went down to breakfast, we were informed there was no full breakfast being served this day. The only thing available at the resort was a continental breakfast being served in the coffee shop. Saturday morning breakfast was served outside on a patio with a covering to include a backdrop of the construction site and all of its various noises. Trying to find rest and relaxation was difficult even on the beach and the sounds of the construction site spilled over onto the beach. At one point I jumped from my lounge chair as I thought a bomb had exploded as I had drifted off to sleep. Nothing was noted about this massive renovation while looking at their web site or making my reservation. I was deceived.

To say the least, we left Key West with a bad taste in our mouths and to be honest, I do not think we will return for any reason. Furthermore, I plan on forwarding a copy of this letter to not only the Casa Marina Resort Management, but posting this all of the travel sites I can find. I do not feel this will cause much of a change within the resort management as they are already aware of their deceptive practices. I become furious when I think we spent Three hundred and fifty-nine dollars a night for a room at the resort! It is my hope your association will intervene with the procedures for this resort as their deception is a complete turn off for Key West.

This is billed as a luxury resort. No way!

The staff put my wife, college-aged daughter, and me in a room with a view of the roof immediately outside our window, with a half a dozen workers in plain view. We asked to change rooms with a pool view and they said we could for $40/night more. After some hassle, they moved us without charge.

The rooms were very dated and not particularly clean. The $18 daily "resort fee" is a joke. With it, you are to get a daily newspaper (NY Times) which was not delivered the first day and it is not included at all on weekends. (You can buy the paper in the gift shop!) This would be more aptly named the "Executive’s Retirement Fund."

Others I spoke with has similar poor experiences, including one guy from Manchester, England who had been coming to the property for 13 years and they treated him so poorly this visit he said he would not be back to Casa Marina!

I could go on, but by now you get it, don't bite. You will enjoy Key West more if you stay at the Hyatt or the Westin, where surely you will get more bang from your "luxury" hotel.

I was there for a convention, and instead of their usual top of the line food, we got convention swill. In the past, when Marriott owned it, we were able to partake of the regular breakfast buffet on Sunday morning. It was not available anymore. I am hesitant to go back this year, although I have never missed this convention each year since it started.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Casa Marina Resort.
I would not recommend it to friends.

The Wyndham hotels and resorts are our favorites. Whenever possible we stay at a Wyndham property when traveling. Casa Marina is one of our favorites. My husband and I are great walkers and one can easily walk to the shops and points of interest in Key West. We have recommended it to friends and family and everyone has been more then happy with all services there. Their on site restaurant is excellent, as is Shula's restaurant which is in a nearby Wyndham property. We are in fact planning a visit there in the month of April and looking forward to being pampered by the wonderful staff at Casa.

This hotel made me feel practical: Though the resort may be considered upscale, one is ever made to feel that they do not belong there. We never feel we are being overcharged for the amenities they offer.

I am very likely to return to the Casa Marina Resort.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Awful! The furniture veneer was peeling, the desk had no knobs, and the lights didn't work. The bathroom ceiling was falling in, and the tub was rusty. I can't believe they would put people in such nasty rooms! I said something to the front desk and they said "Yes, the rooms are embarrassing. We have a new owner and hopefully they will fix it". I paid over $140 for a room with a view of roof tops, and not a peep of green or blue!

I am not likely to return to the Casa Marina Resort.
I would not recommend it to friends.

I enjoyed everything at the Casa Marina: the staff, accommodations, all of it.

This hotel made me feel entertained: The poolside was fun. The games/crafts was great for my daughter. The poolside raw bar was fabulous.

The location is off the main strip and their check-in service was poor. The free parking that was advertised was not provided and I was told that $15.00 dollars per day would be added to our bill to park on the hotel premises. To get to the room, instructions were not provided and the hotel room was only accessible via an outside entrance. A list of the week’s activities local to the hotel was not provided and no discount local outings were advertised, as well as dining local to the hotel.

I am not likely to return to the Casa Marina Resort.
I would not recommend it to friends.

Though the hotel itself was beautiful beyond compare and the rooms were fantastic, I felt that they were a little stingy on the extras. There are hotels that charge less than a third what the Wyndham charges and they provide breakfast.

I just think you cannot beat the service and staff at Wyndham Resorts and Hotels. We choose Wyndham whenever possible when we travel.

This hotel made me feel practical: Casa Marina, though an upscale resort, never makes the guests feel anything but welcome. That is why we continue to return there year after year.
