The Casa Madrona Hotel and Spa is nestled on a hillside in beautiful historic Sausalito. Most rooms offer gorgeous views that overlook Richardson Bay and Belvedere Island as well as the San Francisco skyline. Brick-laid paths adorned with lush greenery, flowers, and fountains escort guests to their rooms, cottages and casitas. Some of the Historic rooms are accessible by stairs only, adding to the historic experience. Casa Madrona Hotel and Spa combines vintage architecture with modern hospitality and golden gate charm. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Casa Madrona now maintains the record for the oldest mansion in all of Sausalito. The 32 original rooms in the mansion as well as the hillside casitas are of a Victorian style each individually themed and named according to their unique style. The 31 additional rooms completed in 2002 feature a contemporary styled decor. Many of our rooms offer a private deck and/or a fireplace. Combine that with the views of sailboats and the sound of sea lions help to create this romantic wistful and creative setting. Casa Madrona welcomes both business and pleasure travelers. All rooms have wireless high speed internet, natural light windows that open and many offer private decks, balconies, and fireplaces. 3 ADA compliant rooms which include large doors/special seats and roll in shower are located directly off elevator. Casa Madrona is also the home to the Spa at Casa Madrona. The Spa lies in the Courtyard between the two main buildings, providing an oasis away from distractions and the sounds of daily life. Okay
Nice enough hotel but when compared with other hotels on this and other trips I can only rate it as average, for three significant reasons: Location, room service and given the first two, price.

Do not stay here. We had been promised a 2-bedroom cottage with 2 queen size beds and walked into a very musty smelling room (so bad it woke me up) with one queen bed and 2 singles.
The two bedrooms did not have doors and were separated by a glass window that you could see through. Our experience went downhill from here. The next morning we were moved to two single bay view rooms. Our luggage was supposed to be delivered for us but nearly 7 hours later it still hadnt arrived. It finally was delivered but we had to hunt for a couple coats that had disappeared on their journey from room to room.
On the surface the new rooms looked great but they were infested with ants (had to call and complain 3 different days), the interior door and patio doors did not fully close (had at least an 1/8 to ¼ inch gap), the heat did not work in one room and the other room was either extremely hot or cold, and even simple mundane things such as replacing coffee and creamers were not completed.
Our bill also included incorrect room rates and double charges for valet parking. Another warning, do not use the valet service. We had a rental vehicle with flawless cream leather interior. When we got the vehicle back we were shocked to see tire marks on the back of the headrest (yes, tire marks from a bellhop cart perhaps?), numerous black grease smudges and a black imprint of the letters ok on the seats. The valets are very unprofessional and would shout obscenities at each other and at cars as they drove past. We complained and my husband overheard one of the gentleman who parks cars state, What do they care, it is a rental.
Eventually we were promised by one of the valets that he would take the car and have a $200 detailing on it to clean up the mess. What a shock (note sarcasm) that when we picked the car up this had not been done.
In all fairness, I should note that this hotel has a great location, great views and an exceptional front desk staff. Unfortunately we would not have had to deal with the front desk staff had the hotel itself not been such a disappointment.

This is a very unique hotel. The stairways and elevators are very confusing because the hotel consists of a lot of different buildings, it includes the original hotel, as well as clusters of Victorian places.
We originally booked the Queen Victorian Suite, but upon arriving at our room, we decided the room for the price was not acceptable for us. The room was nicely furnished, but we requested to be moved. The staff was very quick and helpful about our request. We ended up in a newer contemporary loft room that we loved. The bathroom was absolutely wonderful. It had a tiled, walk-in shower, and a two person soaking tub. It also had a nice, four poster bed.
I would definitely recommend the newer contemporary rooms. We were not as impressed with the Victorian rooms. (They let us look at another one besides the suite.) Also, a lot of the rooms have a beautiful view of the harbor and bay.

Good
The view was beautiful. Bathroom large. There wasn't any lobby. No in-room movies. If staying in Sausalito, I would recommend the hotel. Would not recommend Sausalito for shopping. Tourist junk.
