pros: Nice bed and bathroomsHotel is nice. We stayed in a 'Vintage' King bed room. The room is huge as well as the bathroom with an elegant shower and separate whirlpool bath. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets soft and luxurious. So...
72 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
We arrived by train/bus. The Am track bus drops you off at the Denny's Restaurant (you can see the Hotel from there). Contrary to their advertisement, there is no shuttle service from the airport or anywhere else. The best thing to do is to rent a car from Enterprise (as we did); they are just down the street from Denny's. We called them and they came and picked us up. The Hotel told us they couldn't come and get us so we asked them to call us a cab. We subsequently called Enterprise and Enterprise was there before the cab came. Enterprise offered GREAT SERVICE, both coming and going. Their my choice of rental car agency from now on.
The beds at the Carlton were GREAT, very comfortable with nice down covers. The bathroom towels are terrible. They told us most clients either like them or hate them. They are Italian towels and it feels like your drying yourself with an old rug. Oh, before I forget, don't use too much toilet paper. They only supplied one roll.
And, forget get about the Hotel Bakery - it's gone! There are a couple of nice places to eat in town but, don't be too choosy.
As for the free newspaper; it's not left at your door, you have to go down to the lobby to get it; which is rather inconvenient. And, in the lobby, they do have free coffee but, be careful, when we returned to the Hotel at 4p.m., the coffee and dirty cups were still on the table; they don't seem to clean up that area very often.
We didn't try dinner in the Hotel; we went to Big Bad Bubba's down the street from the Hotel for Ribs; not too bad!
Valet service for your car is great! Very fast and convenient.
It was extremely quiet in the Hotel (almost scary). I later found out that there were only 10 guests in the Hotel. They apparently are having a problem filling the hotel and this is reflected in their level of service (which is understandable). The Hotel staff were all very nice and accommodating.
The Hotel is in a perfect location. Close to everything, including the freeway.
It may have its faults but, it was still a very nice place to stay.
