Captain's Cove Motel Motel - Page 1

My husband & I booked a room the week before the 4th of July. We wanted to take our grandaughter to the beach & had fallen in love with Oak Island about 6 years before. Usually we stay at a motel on the peninsula. This year they had no openings so we called around to other ones, the Captains Cove had a room that had just become open. The woman (Elizabeth) who answered the phone was very friendly & very accomodating. We stayed from July 3-7. When we arrived the staff treated us like they had known us for years. Our 4 year old grandaughter was treated like she was family & the staff never looked at her like she would cause trouble. While we were there we found out that the motel was also very pet friendly. We like that since we have a black lab that we usually take with us. The motel that we usually stayed at on the Island no longer allows pets.

We had one instance where the air conditioner in our room went out. We called the office at 9:30 PM and belive it or not we had a new air conditioner by 10:30. Try that in any other hotel & you would probably have to wait or change rooms. Would we stay there again? You Bet!!!!

I have stayed in 4 & 5 star hotels & never been treated as well as we were treated there. The people there are wonderful. The beach is only a short distance away & the rooms are very clean. Old fashiond yes, but very comfortable. The people make all the difference in the world, not the stars after the motel name. As far as we're concerned put 5 stars for personality & friendliness.

Guests: My husband and I and our two daughters, ages 22 months and 7 months. We rented a 2 double bed unit, one bed for the girls, one for us.

Let me start by saying this was Saturday night, at the end of June. We tried to get a room on Carolina Beach, even the crappiest lil hotel on the main rd, not even on the beach was 120$. We paid 85$ for our room and it was very nice. The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean. There was a TV , microwave and frig. The pool was clean and the kiddie pool was perfect for my oldest daughter. They even had a few pool toys for the kids to play with. There is a paved road beside the motel that goes to the beach, it is very secluded, you can walk or drive as there is parking at the end of the road. There weren't a lot of people on the beach when we went and we could sprawl out and really enjoy ourselves. The motel is pet friendly and I will be taking my puppies back there! There are drink and snack machines that are easily accessible as well. The motel may not look like much from the outside but it is a great place to stay with the family at a great price. I will say that we ate at Jones Seafood across the road from the motel and it wasn't very good. The fries were gross, the oyster stew had no flavor at all. We did find better seafood on Carolina beach.

If you are looking for the Holiday Inn, this place is not it, but allow me to tell you...what this place is.

This place offers friendly smiles from the owners to the service of the maids.

This place offers grills and picnic tables that welcomes vacation talks and grilled food...long into the evenings.

This place is where memories are made.

This place leaves a lasting lure for the next trip.

There is nothing to love at this place. The maid walked the property with a mop and a cigarette dangling from her mouth. You can touch all sides of the pool at the same time. We were told we had an oceanview from our room, you had to drive a 1/4 mile to see the ocean! I had no idea you can make a room as small as they have. A double bed with barely enough room to walk around one side. The carpets, linens, dark panelling, etc were out of date in 1982. I think but can't be sure though, this was a room converted from a maids closet. There were some mysterious racks in odd corners of the room that looked as though you could hang mops and buckets. This would explain the dirt that was in the room, the maid didn't have a place to get a clean mop?
