member icon The parking was the problem....

The hotel is very nice. We really liked our room. The t.v. that we had was okay. When we got there, we did NOT see any place to park. Soo, I went to the front desk and asked where we park the car. He said-at the train station which was 6 blocks away...I said six blocks away? He said yes. Then he asked his co-worker if there were any more parking spots. He said yes. One more. He said it would be 30.00 a day. We said okay. There was NO way we were going to hike back or take a cab to this hotel. We chose this hotel because we went to go see the Washington Nationals play and they lost. The hotel is within walking distance of Nationals Ball Park.

The hotel is nearing completion of a major renovation. Our Junior (Standard) Suite at $104 plus taxes, etc. in the main building far exceeded my expectations. Nicely appointed, clean with very comfortable bed and nice kitchenette amenities. The bathroom was small but well appointed. Found the house staff to be very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very busy on Memorial Day weekend and the staff was up to the challenge. Fitness room incomplete at this time but almost done. Continental breakfast mostly carb based but OK. Access to Metro system is big plus. Good, safe feeling area. Valet parking was $30/day but service was fast.

When we arrived at our room, it was not what is advertised on the web site. We needed 2 queen beds and a pull-out, but all they could accomodate was a twin roll-away. The bathroom walls were crumbling, the pedestal sink cracked, the bathtub chipped. The carpet was filthy and the blue paint on the wall behind the bed was chipped. Another tip, check on your car if you use valet. They parked another car behind ours, and literally pushed the license plate from that car into the back bumper of ours, leaving a dent. Did they waive the valet fee? No! The help ignored our complaints and management turned our car claim over to the insurance company, but never addressed our other issues.

We arrived in DC at 11 pm, we got to the hotel, which looks great on the internet, we got our key and we got on the elevator. When we got to the room, it was very outdated and plain. The heat/air is on a one pipe system, so by the time we got there, they had already switched to heat, only one problem, it was 70 degrees in November and we had no air conditioning. Even when you put the thermostat on cool, it blew out heat, and when it is off the radiator still gives off heat. So they sent up a fan and we opened up the windows. It was not the best experience, the place looked like an old apartment building that they had converted to two bedroom hotel suites. It is the closest place to the Capital, but I still don't recommend it. We paid $140 for one night and it was totally not worth it.

I am not likely to return to the Capitol Hill Suites.
I would not recommend it to friends.
