We just returned from our 5th stay at the Capes. Every April we venture to the beach for some rest and relaxation. Three of my girlfriends and I always stay at the capes in room 308. They know me at the desk and know its my room. Everyone is so nice there we are treated like family. This year they finally added wi-fi what a nice addition. We love the capes because of its location and the price and the room. Its always clean, it has three beds, two televisions so we can watch american idol, and a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Yes, its true they do not put coffee in the rooms but they serve free coffee in the lobby and they will give you coffee for your room if you ask. Unlike the last review we have never had a problem with towels or the room being sandy.
We are 4 "healthy" girls and we need more than one towel. This has never been a problem. If I need something I just call the desk and its taken care of. The indooor pool is always nice for April. Sometimes its warm but this year was cool so the indoor heated pool is a great place for some exercise and relaxation.
The Capes is turly a gem at the virginia beach oceanfront. We should know 5 years ago before we stayed at the capes we tried out lots of hotels and the capes is by far the cleanest and the best value at the beach.

First, the website makes this place look like the Hilton. There is nothing "resort" about this place. We stayed there this past weekend, paid almost $150 per night with tax for a King Jacuzzi suite, and I don't even know where to start.
The bedroom is very small you practically have to crawl across the bed to get to the window to see the street. And you can hear absolutely everyone talking in the hallway. The bathroom is big enough for a toilet and shower/tub only. If someone is standing in there, you cannot open the door.
The "coffee maker in every room" does not come complete with a coffee set up. Bring your own filters, cups, straws, coffee, sugar and cream. The pot was too big for the maker. Also, it sits on the side of the counter where there is no power outlet and you have to run the cord across the sink under the faucet to make coffee. Forget turning on the water.
The sink filled almost half way up before it started to drain.
The "DVD player" has 3 buttons, power, play, and stop. Don't get too comfortable, there is no remote control for the portable little thing. There was sand in the carpet.
The "Jacuzzi" is no more than waist deep when you are sitting in it and was very dirty. Sand blew out of the jets into the water while we were sitting in there. And, you cannot see the beach from the Jacuzzi as they had advertised.
We put our food in the refrigerator when we got there only to wake up the next morning to find that it had been turned all the way down to low and the bacon was warm.
The ice tray in the freezer still had some gooey yellow sticky stuff in it where people had made ice and it was never cleaned out.
The housekeeper called us at 11 am on Saturday while we were in the shower and told us, "she was done for the day, did we want housekeeping or not" we indicated that we would need a few minutes to get dressed, we were soaking wet. She said, 5 minutes or not at all. You call this service?
We asked for some extra towels since there is a Jacuzzi in the room, two is not enough for two people. She ignored our request.
The light switches do not operate the lamps. The daily newspaper appeared for the first time on Sunday when we were leaving. The parking is a nightmare. The pool looks like and indoor kiddie pool and it was humid and musty. The people at the front desk are very rude.
And, the icing on the cake, the single elevator in the whole building broke on Sunday and we had to carry all of our belongings down the stairs from the 8th floor.
We asked to speak to a manager and got stuck arguing with some girl at the front desk who insisted her manager didn't have time to come speak with us. They wouldn't even refund a single penny for everything I just listed here.
The room was totally misrepresented to us on the phone and it was dirty with awful service from the entire staff.

The Capes is awesome for families because of the two room units.
We put our sons crib in the second room. There was no noise from other travelers. We had a balcony that was right on the beach. The staff was wonderful. This is our third stay at this hotel. We had tried others but stuck with this one the last several times due to the value and the pleasant staff.
