I recently stayed at the Canal St Hotel. It was in the worst location with homeless people everywhere. Not only that a woman was murdered the night that we left. It has roaches and smells that you could not believe. There is crime and prostitues on every corner. Please save yourself DO NOT STAY HERE FOR YOUR SAFETY
I can't believe this place is allowed to stay open!!! We took a look at our room and left. Stains on the floors, moldy smelling sheet and pillows, the A/C did not work, the staff are idiots, the safety bolt on the door was broken (as if kicked in), the elevator smelled like a public bathroom, AND THE ROACHES!!! Jail cells are nicer than that place. I just cannot believe that New Orleans will let that place stay open. DIS-GUST-ING!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! IT IS NNNNNNNAAAAAAAASSSSSSSTTTTTTYYYYYYYY!!!!

it looked like something out of a third world country, i checked in and immediately checked out. the heat was unbearable, and the stinch from the room was awful, the place needs to exorcise only a demon could survive there. DO NOT STAY THERE! I booked it on hotwire cuz it was downtown and I figured since it had a 3 star rating it would be at least decent but it wasnt
If you're a dirt poor male college student with at least one other male friend without any girls, go for it. Otherwise, avoid. It's much farther away from the French Quarter than it actually appears. It's also right next to the highway, which is fine, except that that's where all the hobos hang out. Not a terribly safe place, but like I said, if you're a couple of poor college student males (or females with a gun, lol) go for it.
The clerk carries a handgun on his hip. Lots of rift raft coming in and out of lobby. No air in the hallway. Must have been 120 degrees F. Stay in your car instead of this hotel.

well lets just start by saying, the first second upon our arrival, the snitch of the lobby was horrible, [o.yeah, the lobby was full of prostitutes]i walked into the restroom, which was also as disgusting as the lobby. i even started gagging it was so unbearable. And to top it off, on the sink where you wash your hands, there was a used condom!!!! the only reason we stayed there to begin was b/c we had been traveling for the past 6 hours and needed rest. we walked in the room, although it was not the best room, it was okay, other than the smoke smell[note, we ordered a Non-smoking room]. So we stayed, we had to go to walmart and buy cleaning supplies [so the smell would go away & sanitize the rr]. I just felt dirty being in the Piece of junk. we returned. the Lobby finally did not have the horrific snitch[they had the doors in the lobby opened]. we decided to stay b/c it was the last night/ we left for borboun, upon our returned, we came to find out that we had been robbed. No force entry, nothing broken into. so obviously someone else had a room key. we alerted the front desk, She was NO HELP at all. she old us to call the cops, we had already did....HE was no help at all.
They stole my bag full of shoes[@ least 10 + a brand new pair of kicks] 3 bags full or make-up, digital camera, purse, wallet, jewerly, sunglasses, perfume.
Since then i have called @ least ten times, only actaully spoke to them half of them times, but i am not able to get in contact w/ SYZMON-the manager.[he will not return my call.]
Yes, it is a CHEAP place to stay, but if your willing to be in danger, disgusted, or robbed DON NOT STAY HERE!!!!

My mother had just passed away so my brother, sister, and I planned a get away to the Essence Festival. I found this hotel on the internet. Please do not allow these pictures to fool you. This is the filthiest place I have ever seen. The carpet was so dirty that we did not take off our shoes. We changed rooms three times. The air went out in the last room. We suffered the rest of the night. The windows were out in the other two rooms. The bathroom and linens were beyond horrible. I am surprised that this place is still open. The only thing great about this hotel is that it was cheap. The lobby is the best part of the hotel. This place needs to be renovated. It is still suffering from the Hurricane Katrina damage. Listen to me... DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!

Dont be fooled by the perfect score reviews on this hotel. They are obviously from the same person from someone at the hotel. This hotel is HORRIBLE!!! We changed rooms 4 times and each time the rooms were distusgusting. Mold everywhere, dirty and stained linens and carpeting, no phone, air conditioning didnt work, toilet and shower were FILTHY and hardly worked, roaches, and no hot water. Yes, the hotel lobby is nice and the staff was decent but dont let that fool you. Parking is not free and secure as adevertised. Also, at night under the interstate right next to the hotel is a huge homeless city. Definetly didnt feel safe walking to this hotel late at night from the quarter as it was not as close as described.
Overall this hotel is horrible, not even worth staying if it is the cheapest rate in town.

This was absolutely the most dreadful stay I've ever had at a hotel.
In my room there was no hot water, the phone didn't work, the shower head was stuck on massage, the television worked for about 10 minutes, the heater had only one setting - cold, the toilet barely worked, and the room had a funny odor. I also heard some rather questionable, perhaps even criminal sounds comming from the hallways.
I arrived at the hotel around 7pm and left for the French Quarter very shortly after. I arrived back at the hotel around 2am. I am very glad that my stay was short.
I will never visit this hotel again and I do not recommend it.
This place was a disaster from the start. Even though I had reservations, the staff made me wait for a room. Rather than enjoying several hours in the French Quarter, I stood in shock in the lobby, worrying that I did not have a room for the night, along with about a dozen other angry groups of people. The place is a one of the worst places I have ever stayed. It is dirty and run down. The only good thing about the place is it was very close to the French Quarter.
I am not likely
to return to the Canal Street Hotel French Quarter New Orleans - Superdome Area.
I would not recommend it to friends.
