37 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Last October, I took my wife to the Blue Tile Beach House for our "lucky" 13 year anniversary. What an amazing property! The location is second to none, the property managers (Angie and Paul Peters) were knowledgeable and extremely kind, the view is spectacular, and our room (the Upstairs Suite) was posh, decadent, and comfortable. This is a paradise retreat that you must experience for yourself. It was amazing!

I had read on a travel site (previous to our arrival, but after our reservations were made) that the Blue Tile lacked security. Well, this is not what we experienced. There are motion sensor lights throughout the property and there were visible security cameras as well. Further, the property's oceanfront yard was secured by locked gates during our entire stay. Of course, the ocean access gate remained unlocked, which allowed for those late night walks on the beach - something we did every night! We stayed at the Blue Tile for nine days and did not experience one single problem - on property or off. In fact, it was entirely the opposite. Our room locked on all access points and we even forgot to lock the lanai doors a few times but we didn't have any problems. I did not experience one single security problem. In fact, I have never felt more safe and secure.

The Blue Tile is quiet, quaint, and full of great qualities that you won't find at a large, over-priced resort. We felt like we were vacationing in our own private Beach House. It truly felt like home and I can't wait to return.

I loved the setup for breakfast (which is included in the room rate). You can visit it on your own time and do things at your own pace. There is no pressure here. Angie and Paul actually took an interest in what we did each day (often over morning coffee) and what our plans were for the rest of our time on Maui. They both made some GREAT suggestions (locals in the know), some of which we did, and will remember forever. Thanks Angie and Paul!

The Blue Tile Beach House is an amazing place to stay. After this experience, I will never stay any place other than the Blue Tile while on Maui. We'll see you soon Angie, Paul, and Blue Tile! Aloha and Mahalo!

35 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We stayed at the Blue Tile Beach House in February '08. Pleasantly surprised! The house and rooms are much more beautiful in person versus the pictures on the website. Our stay was extra special because I proposed marriage to my girlfriend on the island at Twin Falls! It was incredible. We stayed in the Groundfloor Beachfront Suite and could not believe how fantastic the view was! The bed was really comfortable. In fact, when we got home we purchased the memory foam top that the innkeepers provide on their beds! The room was airy and the housekeeper Tyra did a great job at providing clean linens and towels for us as well as doing our laundry (small fee, but it was worth it!) We were able to take a sauna and a jacuzzi in the big tub. This was fantastic as there was a cool breeze in the air at nighttime! We feel the price was right for what you get. The house was completely full, but even with every room filled, it was nice and quiet! The ocean was the main sound from our room anyhow!

It has been our plan to write a review for this property since we returned to Arizona. We relied on the past reviews and decided to book at this location. It was a friend of ours that actually led us to the property. They had booked a stay at the same time we were to be there, but could not make it because of medical problems. Because of their deposit policy, our friends were concerned that they would not get their 50% deposit back, but they did. Angie and Paul seem to run a really great little business and were so gracious and informative for the island happenings and "things to do". Surprisingly enough, we read the review from the Texas folks posted in March and were wondering if what they said was even true. The beach is a smaller beach and mostly visited by people who live here, but that is what made it so wonderful! Plus, people who choose to stay in accommodations like these generally are not wanting hotel stays or expecting hotel services. It is more intimate and relaxing, and if you choose, you can mingle with the other guests. We met some people from Vancouver BC and Boston. They seemed to enjoy their stay as well! Thanks again Angie and Paul! We will be back after we get married next year!

Cheers and Mahalo

Our stay Aug. 2nd through Aug. 5th. Rented two units: Upstairs Ocean Suite and Downstairs Ocean Suite.

The "Blue Tile B&B" was an accident waiting to happen. Although it has a fantastic ocean view, it has THE WORST security with limited privacy of any place we've stayed. In fact, we're still pursuing legal action against the owners of this property for these reasons and what happened to us because of them.

The property is located right next to a popular public beach with no toilet facilities. Many locals use it from noon to sunset drinking and sitting in the shade next to the bamboo door that exits the B&B to the beach. The first time we went to the beach, we opened the bamboo door and there was a man urinating next to it splashing pee on our sandals. Friday and Saturday nights brought more party people with boom boxes and booze going well into the am hours. Anyone could access the B&B grounds from the beach in several places - so forget about any security there.

Our daughter (age 30) and her grandma (age 85) stayed in the lower ocean front beach suite. We stayed in the suite directly above them. We were told that no air conditioning was needed - just open the glass patio doors and enjoy the breezes through the screen doors. This worked great but none of the screen doors could be secured - the locks were actually missing! First night there, Grandma fell asleep watching TV on the couch with our daughter asleep in the bed next to her. At around 3:30am, our daughter was awakened knowing something was wrong. One of the screen doors was opened and both their purses were gone. One purse was in a suit case, the other was on a chair tucked under the kitchenette counter - both completely out of view, but found nevertheless. While the police were there, we all discovered another patio door leading to the main part of the house was also opened even though it had been closed (locked?) earlier. Come to find out, it couldn't be secured either. Police also told us they had been here before on another robbery 4 to 6 months ago. Be aware that outsiders can see inside this first floor suite if the drapes are open.

Our upstairs front ocean suite also had no locks on any screen door or on any of the sliding glass patio doors. I took pictures clearly showing the entire locking mechanisms' were previously removed on 8 screen doors and 4 glass patio doors. I'm 65 years old and within seconds, I climbed onto the upper unit balcony accessing the unit completely unassisted. The upstairs "honeymoon" suite also had a big blue rounded tiled shower that did not work. The shower head was sealed off and a trickle of water came through an attached plastic shower spray installed on the side, so we had to shower in the small shower unit below where my daughter stayed. We were not even compensated for this inconvenience. Also, the downstairs suite hot tub did not work either (maybe that is why it is not advertised on their website).

The owners informed us they had no insurance coverage for what happened. They did have their handy man install pin locks into only the screen doors and offered us a $500 discount (because of the robbery in the downstairs suite) if we decided to stay. We were told there is a real estate lawyer and to have our lawyer contact him if we pursued this farther. He obviously knows how difficult and expensive this is especially for state side residence. Make sure you know the Hawaii laws governing B&B's before you book one and whatever you do, think three times before booking this one.
