We went to school in Cedar Falls, and on our occasional return trips, we've always wondered about the Blackhawk. Beginning with reservations, which we made by phone while looking at individual pictures of rooms, this was a great experience. ...

This is a beautiful hotel completely restored, and is furnished with antiques in the rooms. Very luxurious; marble floors and tile, Jacuzzi tub, down comforters, and the beds are very comfortable. The rooms are clean, and well taken care of, and...

What a Superb location! Right down town by great restaurants and fun little places to shop. I was so pleased with the service and the cleanliness of this gorgeous hotel. At times I felt as if I were in a museum because of all of their beautiful...
35 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for business
This is a great old hotel located on a very quaint Main Street. I believe I heard that it is the oldest hotel in continuous operation in the state.
An architect and his wife own it and are trying to keep it true to its roots. It's decorated with antiques that are solid and a cloud of dust doesn't rise when you sit down on them. Also, when originally built, there were no closets. So the owners have purchased different and beautiful antique armoires as "closets" for each of the rooms.
While there wasn't room service when I was there, the hotel did have a martini bar and an old-fashioned barber shop and was planning on opening a coffee shop.
The rooms are themed, which adds some extra charm. Suites are available -- Yo Yo Ma actually stayed in one while he was in the 'hood -- and even the regular rooms have remodeled bathrooms that come complete with rubber ducky and bath salts for the deep tubs. Added bonus? Free WiFi internet access.
While there, you should definitely take a walk down Main Street. There's a nice coffee shop across the street from the hotel and a few art and artsy stores. Not to be missed is a fabulous restaurant called Montage. It has a great wine list and a huge menu of the best food imaginable, ranging from appetizers like Chicken Empanadas or Chili Cheesecake with chips to pinon-crusted chicken with chipotle sauce to chicken suizas to a down-home comfort food - Montage Squash-Chicken Casserole. Yum!
I am very likely
to return to the Blackhawk Hotel.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
I stayed for 2 weeks in december on a business trip. The staff is friendly, the rooms (at least the ones I've seen) are ok, clean. If you like antiques it might be thrilling. Breakfast is lousy (like in most US hotels). What annoyed me most, was ...
The BlackHawk is a friendly little historic hotel (only about 30 rooms) offering all of the luxury amenities that the big-boys have plus the little touches that make it a place you want to come back to time and time again...A true home away from...

I stayed in a suite, and was impressed with the overall experience. While features such as whirlpool tubs, extra pillows in the room, a very comfortable bed, quality towels, and robes are not uncommon at nice hotels; there were a few touches that I ...
